"someone could buy a lot of gold"
Ya but so far they have not only certain amount of people for gold as the world will never stop turning
lets says everything went to zero no jobs no f all what would the price of gold be worth ya it would be worth something
as they say cash is still king
graphite stocks will have another round at some point but not now

China also a huge factor in cheaper manufacturing.. That did not occur with the Dutch... The second point Mulcair avoids / omits is the the Loonie was cheap because we were crazy in debt.. Martin's actions like it or not.. had a huge influence on the Loonie's resurgence.. Mulcair's view is simplistic, dogmatic and avoids the big picture..
IMO... :O)

I don't think it matters.. Their government is broken. They need a united congress and Prez.. and no more pork barreling.. A big ticket.. especially the last one..

Not empty, but certainly depleted.
I have a hunch the process was initiated by Slick Willie in 1995 to get re-elected. That was when the classical relationship between real interest rates and the price of gold broke down (forget the name of the empirical relationship).
Probably because of surreptitious dumping of gold to foster the strong dollar campaign.
It worked. Too well.
