LOL...AAPL might be a "Super Gorilla" -- don't know of any other tech companies with a higher market cap that dominate as much as AAPL does right now.

I am seriously thinking about moving a lot of my QCOM investments to AAPL but for the past two years I am have been waiting for the right time. Also, I keep thinking that I will miss out on QCOM. I have been waiting for 10 years!

I now believe the AAPL is going to be the toll gate to wireless. Not QCOM!

I don't see how one can regard APPL as a gorilla. They control no standards. They have been very successful in recent years in either creating new product categories or in reinventing a product category in such a way that the category became popular. Moreover, even when competition developed, they have done a very good job of continuing to lead the pack on features and packaging in subsequent generations of product ... at least, they had. Some of that dominance seems to be getting thin. iOS is no longer the dominant platform in new cell phone sales. Yes, iPhone now tops Nokia in smartphones, but that has more to do with the fall of Nokia than the continued dominance of Apple. iPad is still leading, but competition is very strong and growing ... and much sooner than we saw serious competition for iPhone. Not only is Apple going to have to fight for a leadership position in phones and tablets, but their historical success comes in large part from creating a new product that keeps the buzz alive. What is that new product this time? What if they just can't think of one? What if it bombs (remember the Newton?)?

I'm hardly ready to start shorting APPL, but it seems to me that the valuation is very, very high and doesn't take these risks into account.

Apple is becoming the Walmart of wireless being able to get great bargains from all their vendors.

Hardware for the wireless become a commodity business yielding very little margins?

Apple consumes 30%-50% of flash! I wonder what percent of ASICs they will be purchasing in the near future?

Apple taking over the wireless world will impacting QCOM ASICs margins?

Also there is the potential of Apple being able to start charging vendors licencing and royalty fees on many of their patents?

Apple = Low cost hardware purchases + Top of the line hardware, software, and other consumer prodcut Sales Margins + Services (Cloud + Music + Movies + Apps Store + etc) + Royalty + Licensing

If I can do some math, isn't Apple really becoming the new toll gate to wireless world?

Apple = NOK + QCOM + DELL+ HP + Samsung + INTC + MSFT + AMZN + NFLX + ETC

I have been guessing televisions for quite a while and the rumors are starting that this may be the case. It is certainly one of the very few markets that is large enough to move the revenue needle for Apple.

The capitalization is certainly gigantic. The valuation? What metrics do you think are very very high?

In your opinion, is APPL a gorilla?

I seriously would love to move a lot of my investment to Apple including my QCOM shares.

I know you own both. Do you mind sharing your percentage allocation in each stock?

No. If nothing else, I dont think that Apple has the dominant share in any of their markets necessary to be defined as a Gorilla. It has been way too long since I have read the book though to make a real argument.

This is entirely an individual decision.

Thanks for the input.

As usual, I still can not decide what to do with my investment dollars.

Cheers,
