Michael Chapdelaine (born San Diego, California, 1956) is an American guitarist.

Chapedelaine is the only guitarist ever to win First Prize in the world's top competitions[ citation needed] in both the Classical and Fingerstyle genres—the Guitar Foundation of America International Classical Guitar Competition and the National Fingerstyle Championships at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas. His performances, played on both steel string and classical guitars, include musical styles ranging from blues to Bach to country to rhythm 'n' blues.

In the '80s and '90s Chapdelaine twice won the coveted National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Grant and took First Prize in both the Guitar Foundation of America's and the Music Teachers National Association's Guitar Competitions. He also won the Silver Medal in Venezuela's VIII Concurso International de Guitarra "Alirio Diaz". He has toured four continents while giving hundreds of performances for Affiliate Artists Inc., and various arts promotion organizations. In 1992 he recorded the Sonata Romantica CD, (now re-released as "Mexico"), about which Acoustic Guitar magazine (January 1993) wrote "... if I were marooned on a desert island with a limited selection of recordings, this one would be among my choices...I have seldom heard a more beautiful album. Other young guitarists have excellent technique, but few have such style and musicality, and Chapdelaine's beautiful tone is the nearest to Segovia's that I can recall."

and a disaster playing for Segovia...and listen to his recap..incredibly mature summary.

Not Mike, i wish..i stumble thru some pieces now and then...

I like the Segovia story just because Michael handled it so well..Imagine the disappointment to be in front of Segovia and then be told to sit down.

Several of life's lessons there...

My Regards and Happy Easter,P1976

<...stumble thru some pieces now and then> Hear ya. At 68, thankful I can play at all. Inoperable pinched nerve sometimes creates so much numbness, in left arm and hand, have to quit after as little as 5 minutes. Other times can play for an hour with no problem. Never know.

What kind of guitar(s) do you use?

Food for thought, this weekend:

zerohedge.com

Recovery? What Recovery? 4 years after central banks have progressively injected over $7 trillion in liquidity into the global markets (and thus, by Fed logic, the economy), and who knows how many trillion in fiscal aid has been misallocated, to halt the Second Great Depression which officially started in December 2007, the US "recovery" is the weakest in modern US history! How many more trillions will have to be printed (and monetized) before the central planners realize that fighting mean reversion by using debt to defeat recore debt, just doesnt't work? Our guess - lots.

Incidentally, the US has now generated 3 million jobs since the trough of the recession in September 2010, until which point it had previously lost 8 million. Unfortunately, since the real labor force has grown by 4.6 million over the same period, or at the conventionally accepeted 90,000 labor pool entrants per month for 51 months, despite what the BLS may say, because America is after all growing, this means that the Obama administration has created a negative 1.6 million jobs net of demographics, which in turn have cost the US a modest $5.1 trillion in new debt, or an even modest $3.1 million in debt for every job lost.

Chart 1 - the current "recovery" in the context of all previous ones:

Chart 2 - Min, Max and Average... and now

Chart 4 - There is good news: 16 quarters after the start of the recession, US output has turned positive. Just barely.

i can empathize with you though you have a few years on me..

Edgar is great and i didn't mean to leave him off..

youtube.com

in 1951 my aunt bot a brand new Martin D-18 to play in a band..i learned to play some on that and some other guitars then she gifted it to me in 1971 and i still have it in mint condition..

Also a couple of years ago i bot another Martin..a Martin OMC-28M Lawrence Juber..it was signed by him at the factory. but then i was at a workshop he put on- a great guy and a helluva musician- and i had him sign it again on the neck, fwiw it is now a double-signed guitar. It plays itself and just makes me feel like i am in church..

and 3 more stuck around that aren't bad..i thinned them out a while back..
