"Who can endure a doctrine which would allow only dentists to say whether our teeth were aching, only cobblers to say whether our shoes hurt us, and only governments to tell us whether we were being well governed?"

CS Lewis

My quote in support of a 3rd party vote this year (ggg).

In these politically charged times, this quote seems to me to be a timely reminder that falls within the directive of this thread's header to include those "that seek to challenge us to grow beyond our prejudices."

"To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead." - Thomas Paine

He who will not reason, is a bigot; he who cannot is a fool; and he who dares not, is a slave.
- Sir William Drummond

I don't find these times particularly charged politically. I find them to be mentally challenged. Most partisan behavior isn't about politics. It's about sloppy thinking patterns.
I'm without a doubt a partisan person, but I've built my partisanship on reason, honest assessment of facts, and a willingness to change in the face of new evidence. Most partisan behavior is built on emotion and myth, and therefore not open to change.
