>It is a question of getting a free solution to common problems.

free? The only thing I generally see advertised free is a brainwash.

In any event, it looks more like a personal decision for you than an item for forum discussion. So, good luck.

The post that you respond to, was made after I got some questions on the adoption on OpenOffice, based on numbers on an external site. It is a general principle, that the longer a feature list is, the more customers you get. Microsoft has reached the point where they need existing customers to upgrade, and that's why they don't focus on the feature list any more, but even may remove features.

There is a lot of good, free stuff out there. I think that the the google search engine service is a very good example of an advertised free product, which many people like to use.

Microsoft is also providing a lot of free stuff.

But if you think it is brainwash, you should stop using all of this immediately.

According to Microsoft's homepage, Office 2007 doesn't support PDF, unless you install extra software.

office.microsoft.com

(sorry, it is not obvious how to switch that to English)

The extra software is free and distributed by Microsoft and available very easily. So, what's the problem? For the english version:
microsoft.com

Thanks for finding this. I also found a good add-in that is does maps for outlook 2007 automatically. This seems to be a great add-in:
microsoft.com

I agree with you if you say that most people won't find these great add-ins...

Gates, Microsoft's founder, has said that he will work with the company full-time until mid-2008. In his remaining months, he said that his efforts will be mainly directed toward "search, buyers and sellers. ... That will be my biggest thing."

He has been saying that for a while. I don't think he brings any technical expertise to the table. His contribution can only be minimal at best however much he tries. Unless he is willing to spend money and go after Google engineers...
