that was a typo. how many arab and moslem countries are there? 50 -60? lets say there are 30. if each of them would take 50,000 refugees the problem would be solved. and the density issue would be no longer. what is 50,000 more when populations are in the millions? give me a break. Let the UN provide each refugee family with $10,000 to start their way. IM sure the Israel government would chip in too. let them fire their rockets someplace else.

What puzzles is American TV coverage of the Gaza situation. Why are these people afraid to ask tough questions of Israel? They have no such problem with the palestinian speakers.

Just watch BBC to get real news. That british BBC anchor representatives of both sides tough questions..especially the Israeli ambassador to the UN.

Fair and/or Balanced? Clueless? FOX, CNN ? They are a joke.
Watch BBC to get real international news...watch CNN/FOX to get the "spins". Such a shame that these "news" organizations have become such cowards.
Only by seeing the real news, can people get better perspective of the situation...or even change viewpoints.

btw-I am not making a statement on the situation, just the useless media.

Republicans have class unlike democrats

Sad to see but the Republicans have turned into a party of simpletons. The fiscal conservative views are only good if they are in the minority.

If the markets do well under Obama in the next 4 years, the Democrats will have the liberal vote as well as the fiscal conservatives. There was always the worry that Dems would screw up the economy and stock market...so people voted with their wallet in mind. Now that seems to have changed already...and if it plays out well, you won't see a Republican president for decades.
In fact, Dems have nothing to lose by being fiscally conservatives and socially liberal. Win Win situation...because the liberals won't have anywhere to turn to anyways. You can already see this strategy developing with the stimulas. The Republicans are being in a sense.."forced" to vote for tax cuts, but ultimately the credited will be given to Dems/Obama for this plan.

Like I said, a party of simpletons..not fit to run the most important country in the world. The Bushes/Palin types now symbolize Republicans.....when I saw those Palin rallies, I knew it then.

The Degree Of US Responsibility In Gaza Bloodbath
By Max Kantar

countercurrents.org

Israel's largely "American-made" military includes "thousands of TOW, Hellfire, and 'bunker buster' missiles" as well as massive fleets of U.S. F-16 fighter jets and Apache helicopters—all crucial to Israel's murderous air strikes. Additionally, Israel has been dropping an array of American "GBU-39 small diameter bombs" on Gaza—bombs that "contain uranium oxide and [are known to leave] behind radioactive contamination."

Israel cannot win - Jane's

jordantimes.com

LONDON (AFP) - Israel probably judges it has up to 10 days to complete its Gaza operation, but a military victory over Hamas is not possible, defence analysis group Jane's said Monday.

The security situation in southern Israel and the Gaza Strip will not be improved by Israel's assault on the Islamist group, said David Hartwell, Jane's country risk Middle East analyst.

Fighting will likely continue until Israel feels it has completed its objectives, because the United States is unlikely to put pressure on its ally before Barack Obama replaces George W. Bush as president on January 20, he said.

"Israel probably judges that it has another week to 10 days to complete its operations in Gaza, given the time it has taken for international pressure to reach a point where engagement is deemed necessary," said Hartwell.

"Nevertheless, it will need to show tangible results to justify the expense of lives and money to the Israeli public.”

"Thus, while calls for a truce will grow louder, until Israel feels it has achieved its objectives or the United States begins to voice public concern at the diplomatic cost of the operation - an unlikely prospect in the immediate term given the situation with the Bush administration - the fighting in Gaza will continue."

Israeli troops tightened their military grip on Gaza with new air and ground attacks that claimed more than 20 lives on Monday, while the Israeli government rejected European-led calls for an immediate ceasefire.

More than 555 Palestinians have been killed since Israel's Operation Cast Lead began on December 27.

"Hamas may well bow to Egyptian pressure and accept the need for a truce, but Israel's attitude is such at the moment that this will only be granted when it feels its military job is done," Hartwell said.

"With a military victory for Israel over Hamas not possible, the security situation in southern Israel and Gaza will not improve, even in the longer term."

Horrible as the Bush wars have been at least Bush had to sell his wars via lies, stealth, and deception.

Not so in Israel. Most of the population knows what is happening and supports it strongly. No need for Zionist politicians to lie Israel into aggressive war.

Most Israelis knowingly support the genocidal massacre their government is carrying out.

Leading Rabbi openly advocates carpet bombing of Gaza.

Sanjay Gupta, Surgeon General?

huffingtonpost.com

President-elect Barack Obama has approached CNN's chief medical correspondent, Sanjay Gupta, to be the country's next surgeon general, the cable news network said Tuesday. CNN said it has kept Gupta from reporting on health care policy and other matters involving the incoming Obama administration since learning he was under consideration for the post.

A Democrat with knowledge of the discussions over the surgeon general spot cautioned that there was not yet a final decision on who would fill the post. The person spoke on a condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media on the matter.

Obama's transition office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Gupta hosts "House Call" on CNN, contributes reports to CBS News, and writes a column for Time magazine. He is a neurosurgeon and is on the faculty at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. During the Clinton administration, he was a White House fellow and special adviser to then-first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The surgeon general typically isn't heavily involved in shaping an administration's policy, but it can be a very effective bully pulpit. Past surgeons general have proved instrumental in battling tobacco and AIDS.

Having such a well-known TV personality could bring the surgeon general attention not seen since C. Everett Koop help the position under President Ronald Reagan. Koop is best known for pushing to make AIDS a public health issue rather than a moral issue, and Reagan faced pressure to fire him. Koop has said Reagan never interfered.

CNN said Gupta would not comment on the discussions and released a statement that said, "Since first learning that Dr. Gupta was under consideration for the surgeon general position, CNN has made sure that his on-air reporting has been on health and wellness matters and not on health care policy or any matters involving the new administration."

CBS News is a unit of CBS Corp.; CNN is owned by Time Warner.

More details from the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz:

The offer followed a two-hour Chicago meeting in November with Obama, who said that Gupta could be the highest-profile surgeon general in history and would have an expanded role in providing health policy advice, the sources said. Gupta later spoke with Tom Daschle, Obama's White House health czar and nominee for Health and Human Services secretary, and other advisers to the president-elect.

The Michigan-born son of Indian and Pakistani parents, Gupta has always been drawn to health policy. He was a White House fellow in the late 1990s, writing speeches and crafting policy for Hillary Clinton. His appointment would give the administration a prominent official of Southwest Asian descent and a skilled television spokesman.

Jacob Goldstein of the Wall Street Journal offers:

There's a certain logic to picking a TV talking head to be surgeon general, because the surgeon general is largely a talking head. The top doc does oversee the 6,000-member Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service, but the real work of the job is traveling around the country, using the job as a bully pulpit to advance a public health agenda.

In this media-saturated era, who could do that better than a doc who's famous for explaining health issues on cable TV?

>>>Republicans have class unlike democrats<<<

Time will tell you that you've been wrong; time will tell that Democrats have also been wrong. But where are we at, given what we can do ... the only practical alternative for a better view of tomorrow is Democrats -- they're more sensitive to the true needs of all, not just some, people.

My preference would be lots of parties competing for the best ideas ... but we don't get that in America, land of the free, do we?

So stick to the decaying GOPwinger line, if you like. History will go right by ya ... I assure ya! In fact, it might already have done so. Just food for thought, longnshort ... just food for thought!!!
