Yeah, you darned Canucks are buying up everthin! I'm gonna hafta wait more like 8 weeks for my cabinets because there were so many orders during HD's buy more save more promotion. You guys hafta be lovin' NAFTA?

Hafta love nafta ............

Hasta be a song or a poem in there. :)

NAFTA don't work so good for Yanks on accounta prices in ca are so high.

I was just over to my favorite little Provincial Park, in BC. They've hiked the fee to $30.00/day. At a no services park for crying out loud. No way I'm taking my RV there. I cringe to think what the fees must be at the "real" park campgrounds.

i believe you shall be proven correct

between monetary dilution, cash-on-a-chip societies, all-intrusive government computers, deep-probing data mining, body cavity search on demand, and high frequency trading, along with rule by making rules, i fear the worst

a 27-years old tv? that is ... unique

and wonder what would happen if you asked the original manufacturer to fix any issues ...

"dear sir, do you have an add-on module that would convert my rca model #@$%# so that it can process hi-definition digital signals and display 3d sync-ed to my sone model %$#@ 3d glasses ... appreciate greatly and thank you in advance, etc etc"

While it's sort of true that the value of gold is because of the huge effort to mine it, the real value is that people are willing to buy it for expensive purposes such as displaying wealth, storing it and swapping it. The fact that gold is so hard to get means not much of it is produced.

The willingness to buy and the willingness to dig are in balance. If the price drops, then people won't dig. If the price zooms, people will dig flat out. It's interesting how all that vast effort from centuries gone by to excavate gold can be stored in the gold and handed on from generation to generation as a monetary unit. There isn't much that doesn't become obsolete. So far, gold has avoided that fate.

This part is wrong: <Gold and economic freedom are inseparable, > Gold is just one of many ways of exchanging value and storing it. Most societies have historically involved little or no economic freedom, with the king/emperor/chief monkey taking anything they like. But they were still based on gold as a unit of money. If anything , economic freedom has been most normal where gold was NOT the basis of money. All that fiat money means is that another avenue of tax collection is opened up, by way of dilution. That's not a big deal. The tax from dilution is small compared with the taxes on incomes and spending.

Meanwhile, my top secret new monetary system is coming along nicely. It will make gold obsolete. Once people realize gold has value only as a bauble, tooth filling, or electrical conductor free of corrosion/oxidation, the price will plunge to the cost of production plus profit, the same as digging coal, or anything else.

Gold is so last-century.

Quite right BS, but as TJ wrote, the big game in town is the State versus the Individual. Increasingly, the State vs Cyberspace is the bigger game. Mostly, so far, it has been the individual balancing their interaction with Cyberspace/phones, which you have resolved nicely.

Big Brother looms large. In China, the state is determined to remain on top of everyone and Cyberspace. They will lose. In the so-called and foolishly-called "free" world, the battle is also underway and the state might even do better as it purportedly represents "We the People" which it does not.

Tradable Citizenship states will win; especially so if they, their people, and their interaction with Cyberspace are in harmony.

The End of History is not yet. en.wikipedia.org  The Beginning of History is underway and this part of history will be far more interesting than the red in tooth and claw battle between Malthusian territorial alpha male dominance hierarchies out to take what they could get from adjacent tribes.

Breathtaking small-town fraud...

Dixon comptroller arrested in $30 million embezzlement scheme
morrisdailyherald.com

The size of the losses represents a staggering hit for the small northwest Illinois town with a budget of only about $8 million to $9 million a year and left residents bewildered.

"Nobody was watching the store," said Ron Pritchard, who attended high school with one of Crundwell's brothers. "We don't have the checks and balances."

In spite of a city salary of just $80,000 a year, Crundwell lived extravagantly, spending huge sums on her horse farms in Dixon and Beloit that raised champion quarter horses as well as $340,000 on jewelry since mid-2006 and $2.1 million to buy a luxury motor home fit for a rock star.

I would simply buy a new one.. It belonged to my great aunt who took care of us kids quite a bit.. some sentimental attachment ... I use it for BNN :O)

No flat screens in our home as of yet.. but I could use one for the trailer.. less bulk and weight :O) TV a small component of our lives..

EDIT: I like the theatre experience.. so if I get (when) a new tv for the home.. I will go large .. 60in plus :O) That may be small by then LOL..

Dakota Takes You Inside Rita Crundwell's Birthday Bash

Dakota Diamond Griffith

Published 01/11/2010 - 7:14 p.m. CDT

Rita was gorgeous as always in one of her trademark “must have” coats. Where does she find these items?

Although it was a frigid 35 degrees, Rita Crundwell’s annual birthday party heated up the beachfront patio Sunday night at the famous Sharky’s restaurant in Venice Beach, Florida. Industry leaders traveled to Venice from many parts of the country just to attend the party which was one of the premier events of the year. It was just the shot in the arm needed by weary horse show exhibitors who have been braving unseasonably cold temperatures for several weeks during the Florida Winter Circuits.

Click here for pictures that Dakota took from the birthday party!

Always the gracious host, Jim McKillips treated partygoers to an outstanding buffet consisting of delectable jumbo shrimp cocktail, caesar salad, prime rib, penne pasta with chicken and vegetables, coconut shrimp and other mouthwatering entrees. Guests also enjoyed great live music by an “island” style band that got a lot of people on their feet. Jack Kaplow, the young son of Meg and Evan, showed everyone a move or two. One thing was for sure – a good time was had by all.

Rita was gorgeous as always in one of her trademark “must have” coats. Where does she find these items? In my next life, I want Rita and Hannah Casper to be my personal shoppers. Not surprising, it got a little crazy at the Casper, Griffith and Hawkins table! For once, it wasn’t the kids causing the ruckus (whew!) However, there were three Moms who were having way too much fun and clearly needed a chaperone.

The best news is that Rita is hosting the exhibitor’s party at Fox Lea this week, so never fear; there are more good times to come. Except for Rita who stole the show, Jim McKillips’ beautiful family upstaged the event with daughter Tracy, son-in-law Ray, grandkids, and sister Meri in for the fun.

The Winter Circuit festivities continue at Fox Lea Farm. Wish you were here, but if you aren’t, never fear; I’ll be here to keep you posted. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it! :-)

Rita Crundwell of Meri-J Ranch of Beloit, Wisconsin--Jonathan compliments these stalls calling them "Over the top crazy". They feature a log home with lots of neon and has the the look of western sheik. Rita has the entire row of stalls and has decorated both the front and back in this same outback western style.
