SIGM -

Interesting read - at least for fans of SIGM, like me.

"Rising stars
Commentary: Buying into strong, steady uptrends

By Harry Boxer, The Technical Trader

Last Update: 12:43 PM ET Feb. 2, 2006
LOS ANGELES (TechTrader) -- Technical analysts look for patterns in price movements, and one pattern I like is simple: stocks in strong, steady uptrends!
Legendary trader Jesse Livermore once said, "Buy high and sell higher!" I couldn't agree more. No use looking to catch a falling knife. Rather, catch a rising star!

Like Sigma Designs (SIGM)Sigma Designs Inc, for example. After having vacillated back and forth for several years, Sigma has finally broken out across multi-year highs going back more than a decade and is trading at its highest level since 1993.

One reason why I'm impressed is that the advance has not gotten ahead of itself. The up-channel has been steep (about 45 degrees in the last three months) but steady, with the stock making orderly pullbacks to its moving averages before making higher highs.

Projecting out four to six weeks along the middle of the rising channel, the target would be 21-22, which is also the all-time high going back to the late 1980s. A break of that level would lead to my next target towards the top of the channel around 30.

Obvious major support exists at the multi-year highs that were recently taken out in the 13 zone. Any pullback to there, especially on low volume, would be an opportunity to add to positions, although a break below 13 on strong volume would be a warning sign......"
