Question for all.....

First Flash, then Lucent, then IBM, then Qdesign, and now Dataplay. Is it me, or is e.Digital looking more and more like merely a tool to showcase other companies technologies?

Non-recurring engineering fees in my opnion are insignificant compared to licensing fees relative to the stock price appreciation we would like to see.

And if all these companies are merely using edig as a platform just to introduce their technologies in a time appropriate manner, so that they can allow more mainstream companies to develop their own production ready models, I think we are in trouble.

I know the potential is there, and I am committed to the long term, but multiple relationships don't add up to revenues. I have found this story (now 2 years invested for me) to be very unique relative to the release of information. In my opinion, there has been way too much vague innuendo regarding future business via letters from management.

Does anyone else agree with me? Your thoughts as always are appreciated.

Good Luck.

Time will tell, Patrick. I guess this is why our investment is considered prospective and requires a tablesetting of baserunners instead of the glory of a homerun. A home run for EDIG would be nice, but even the best homerun hitters only get one every 15 to 20 at-bats. I'm hanging in there, glad to be at the game and hoping for victory.

Patrick, I think that it is the nature of the business(emerging technology) and the timing involved to roll out new technology. Secrets/NDA's abound. Partnerships and allies have been made by all companies involved to get to market on time for xmas buying this year.

CE companies were/are waiting for content to be released ...happening now. I suspect Lucent and their epac will take advantage of radio...which needs to go digital. QDX may become a format of choice.

Edig involved with Intel prototypes...you can expect to see these come to market within 2 years (IMO).

We know that they have contracts with Hango/Eastech...our products are on their site and Comtex. e.Dig is getting a lot of exposure from Eastech. I recall that the first PR mentioned that "their OEM's wanted e.Digital technology"..something very close to this statement.

Eastech board of director news release announcing Huge Contracts with Audio Electronics companies Sanyo and Music Machine. This release stated that Sanyo was a customer of Eastech for speakers only till now. Sanyo is an OEM provider themselves..check their site. When you're there you will note no news on electronics prodects since CES 2000.

As far as Dataplay...edig had the ONLY working devices at CES....how big is that? Word is that Universal Music Group sent Dataplay edig way....how big is that?

In addition edig is involved in speech recognition...coming out with a jukebox this fall with speech. Don't forget being an inaugeral member of VoiceTimes with Intel, Ibm. Fred Falk asked to speak at JUSTRI Conference..Japan US Telecommunications Research Institute (hope I have that right :-)

I've been involved just about as long as others here and although I don't like the share price currently..I am very pleased with the progress that management has made. I believe any company in this field is aware of e.Digital. I look forward with great anticipation to PR's that will be forthcoming by the World's Largest PR company regarding e.Digital and their technology.

Best of luck,

Pam

In my opinion, billion dollar companies could find far better venues in which to showcase their products. Were I a VP responsible for marketing at Intel or Samsung, I'd be inclined to give entities like BestBuy, Circuit City, etc. good pricing and free ads in exchange for some prominent shelf space. That's not the game EDIG is in, however. We are a behind the scenes player providing designs and software that chipmakers and CE manufacturers can use to produce cutting edge products. The timetable for release of those products, however, is out of EDIG's control. Investors must accept this fact and learn to live with it. If they can't, they don't need to be invested in this niche.

Good feedback guys. Thanks......

Although I have been invested for two years, I find it very hard to get a very good understanding of where edig's technology stands, one because how fast the portable market is evolving, and two, because of the "behind the scenes" nature of their OEM technology.

Well positioned is a very good term to hear about your company's product, but sustaining that position to profit is the hard part. I guess if edig had more money in the coffers, and easier access to additional financing, this "nda" environment of business would be easier to accept. When you have a long term investment like this one we all hold, the cash and cash equivalents better be readily available. Time is of the essence in my opinion, given the financial information we have.

Good Luck.

Wow..Eastech!!
Excerpts (must read all):
Eastech is an OEM manufacturer. It is also an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer). Some of the brands it owns and represents include: Dual, Atlantic Technology, Herron Audio, Emerson, Mission, Audire, Inc., Totem, Outlaw, Bryston, Power Source, Luxman, Paramount, and California Audio Labs.

Eastech claims to have the following competitive advantages:

The most vertically integrated A/V Company in terms of manufacturing. Also horizontally integrated in terms of technology and industry as it spans from Home Audio products, Professional Video Displays, to Internet Audio, Computer/Multimedia Audio, Gaming Industry to Communication Industry.

They are the leading OEM for speaker systems in terms of production and market share.

The only Audio/Visual OEM/ODM supplier who is able to offer Global Logistics to customers. In addition to its existing manufacturing facilities in China, Malaysia, US and Hungary, the Company plans to set up manufacturing plants in South Asia (India) and South America (Brazil) to enhance its global logistics network.

The Company has strong research and development capabilities, spending over $5 million in FY2000 on R&D. It also has over 120 senior R&D engineers.

Eastech is the only Company that can supply the complete MP3 range globally, i.e., from Standard-Play Back model, CD Based model, Multi-Code model, Encodable model, and Juke Box.

Eastech formed strategic alliances with leaders in the Internet Streaming field, namely ZapMedia, AudioRamp, and Arrio in order to be well-prepared for the increase in streaming A/V on the Internet within the next 4-5 years.

The Company forms strong relationships with its customers, with 90% of their customers being repeat customers. Many of their key customers have been with them for the last 10 years.

It has enforced stringent internal quality controls.
And this:
Mr Liou said, "A/V technology will continue to evolve as long as human beings still have ears and eyes."

New Products

He believes that revenue for FY2001 will continue to grow for the following reasons:

The results of a 3-fold increase in R&D spending in product development since 1999 will begin to bear fruit in FY2001.
One of the new products which the Company is very confident of its success is the DVD-Receiver for which it has secured at least 8 customers namely, TEAC, AKAI, KLH, Schneider, Quelle (Universum), D-Link, Hitachi and Emerson.
Eastech has also developed the whole range of MP3 players and Digital Juke Box.
New Factories

In 1999, the Company invested in the expansion of the capacity at its two new factories in Hungary and ShaJing, China.

The number of production lines in the Hungary plant doubled from 2 to 4 lines. The factory in Hungary will focus on servicing key customers such as Phillips, Sony and JVC in FY2001.
In China, the ShaJing factory increased its capacity from 4 production lines to 6 lines, while the Hui Yang Electronics factory tripled its capacity.
New Japanese Customers in OEM/ODM - Audio/Visual Electronic Products

It was only at the start of FY2001 that Eastech has succeeded in securing orders from Japanese OEM/ODM accounts by the A/V Electronics Division. This was largely due to Eastech's employment of key Japanese staff with the relevant experience and network of contacts.

Higher End Markets

Eastech will continue to shift the manufacturing of its higher end products to Malaysia, such as Higher End Home Audio, Professional Audio and Commercial Audio product categories.

The Malaysian plant secured new orders in the above product categories:

And this:

New Business Units

It has developed two new business divisions, namely Branded Marketing and Internet Appliance, which will start to show returns by this year.
In Taiwan, Eastech has succeeded in securing 13 exclusive distributorships in Taiwan.
It targets to set up 28 direct-owned stores in Taiwan in 2001. It plans to have 60 "AV Inn" stores and 35 Brand Image stores by end 2002.

Mr. Liou, Chairman of EASTECH, added, "e.Digital's jukebox design and expertise in digital product development are complementary to our business. Together we can offer our OEM customers advanced solutions for their product development and manufacturing needs. Our customers are interested in the latest digital music technology and in incorporating MicroOS/MicroCAM into their product lines."

AND this:

Mr. Liou, Chairman of EASTECH, added, "Based on our OEM customers' interest, we believe we have found a valuable engineering and design partner in e.Digital. We seek to further support our customers by expanding our licensing agreement with e.Digital and offering their DataPlay-enabled designs to our OEM customers for licensing and private labeling. By strengthening our partnership we believe we will be able to help our private label customers take advantage of sales growth expected in DataPlay-enabled products."
