I had the same thing happen last month with ANR calls. Of course I was losing money on ANR puts. I moved the strike prices down on the calls I had sold to try to keep the trade relatively balanced. At least the hedging worked out well.

Doesn't matter anymore as the brokerages are required by law to report cost and sale of stock and options. 2011 was the last year brokerages didn't have to provide option cost data to the IRS.

Did you notice stock cost data was reported to the IRS this year along with wash sales for the first time.

Going to make my life so much easier.

The game is awful. It has been mismatched the entire time. You may get a laugh out of this, but I just got a big thrill by saving about $30. Target is selling iTunes cards at 15% off for this week. So anyone who uses iTunes should go and get the cards using coupons from this week's circular.

Etrade monitors it but it has historically been very very wrong. I even think the stock data is wrong when puts or callexercise assigned/exercised. I am tempted, however, to just take their data this year and not go through the 50 hours of manually inputting the data into my accounting software.
