Opportunities of a lifetime, or a quick flush down the toilet. Wish I could tell which.

Opportunities, of course!

We are not going back to the Middle Ages.

Pick the most solid, best protected, debt-free, cash rich exporters for they will be relatively cheap. Or simply an index you like.

Then do nothing for a long time except reinvest divvies.

Bearcatbob: 'all I need to do is default on a new home loan and it will be given to me.'

You are a slow learner but anything is progress. Another thing you can do is get yourself two social security numbers. You use the first one for getting a paying job and pay taxes like everyone else. On the other one you claim you are unemployable and sign up for all the freebies. All you have to do is abbreviate/alter your first name. I dare say, the US government would be surprised to learn that the US population is far fewer than the census shows. But be careful. Dont't have a big spat with the wife or girlfriend or you may be turned in. I know of one case where that happened. Let's see:

Linn Energy Announces Authorization of Unit Repurchase Program
Thursday October 9, 11:52 pm ET

HOUSTON, Oct. 9, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Linn Energy, LLC (NasdaqGS:LINE - News) announced today that its Board of Directors has authorized the repurchase of up to $100 million of the Company's outstanding units. The Company may purchase units from time to time on the open market or in negotiated purchases. The timing and amounts of any such repurchases will be at the discretion of management, subject to market conditions and other factors, and will be in accordance with applicable securities laws and other legal requirements. The repurchase plan does not obligate the Company to acquire any specific number of units and may be discontinued at any time.

``The Board's authorization of the unit repurchase program reflects its confidence in Linn Energy's business and its belief that our units are significantly undervalued,'' said Michael C. Linn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. ``Furthermore, this program underscores our strong balance sheet and liquidity position. Linn Energy's current yield is approximately 22%, and we believe that repurchasing our units at these levels will deliver value to our unitholders.''

>>>>>>So, get ready for a big ride up that will drag the producers along with it.<<<<<<

GLUG, GLUGG......AHHhhhhhh!! I'll drink to that! Hope you're readin' it right, John.

In the meantime, i'm going to stay 100% cash 'til I see a buy confirmation per my Modified Dabum strategy that I've mentioned a few times over the last 18 months....a discipline that is producing this year a 42% annual gain rate as of 9/30, if I can continue to maintain the same rate of gain through the rest of '08. Looking at the charts, I don't see any hint of a near term buy signal, so I'll just continue to sit back and watch the knife snaggers for awhile.

Plan to go to Hawaii for a 10 day revisit...first since '47 as a jug headed Sea Going Bellhop....back here the last of Oct. You guys listen to th' Dog now, ya hear? Don't want no messy food fights goin' on.....and serious, now....ya'll try to keep all yer fingers, will ya? Them knives are viscious as H#ll!

buckbldr "I don't see any hint of a near term buy signal,--"

I just received a new low number for the S&P 500. It is now lowered from 700 down to 500.

And the Asian markets look terrible. And crude oil keeps dropping this evening.

This is not the time to say when everybody is negative that that is a signal to buy.

You can safely assume one or more major banks just narrowly avoided failure.

I strongly suspect it was Citibank. When the Treasury agreed to give Wachovia to Wells Fargo in return for their much higher bid, Citibank lost their chance to use Wachovia's large deposit base to dilute the toxic derivatives Citibank is loaded with.

The government will only buy your home mortgage and reduce your balance and payments if John McCain is elected.

Nobody else has offered you a free home.

Over the years Obama's largest contributors have been major banks.

So it's safe to say you, and other's who're "renting" a bank-owned home, will get the cold shoulder from Obama if you fall behind on your mortgage payments.

I suspect this crash has effectively defined "peak oil". There will be decreased exploration and by the time the exploration process ramps up again depletion will have a huge head start.

The way things are going the current peak may well be very sufficient.
