Did you post a pic to Year of Lunches? I looked but don't see one. Always happy to view pictures of tarts :)
And I presume pluot means plum? Like the big ones, crosses between nectarines and plums etc?

I'm trying to find the cable to my camera :-) But yes- that's what a pluot is.

New book out down loadable from Amazon only.

I heard about it last night at 4am. on WIFI National Public Radio Worldwide.

Laure Garrett I HEARD THE SIRENS SCREAM.

She is a brilliant scientist who has been consulted on many issues because of her research.

It took her 10 years to write this book and I am planning on downloading it onto my Kindle . The only problem is that I think it will be very upsetting as it really picks apart all the misgivings one might have about 911..
and what everyone was told afterward.

ONE of her salient issues is denying the first responders. She said that it was made clear that there was no danger. She said not only was there anthrax in the debis but asbestos, computer material that produced terrible toxins and that everyone who ever served will suffer terrible as not only were the lungs infected but the blood stream too with the worst toxic inhalants ever produced.

She has a lot more to say and it sounds like an enlightening albeit terribly upsetting book from our losing our civil liberities after this, but the illegal war in Iraq when everything was perpetrated by Al Qaeda..... PERIOD.

Even those Americans who were condemned for sending anthrax through the mail. It was Al Qaeda.

I'll look at both of those. The guy that owns that great video store in Dallas that I praise so often, finds original material and loves foreign films so his stock of them is huge. I can ask him if the original Wallander can be bought/rented. Unfortunately he won't do an on-line option as it would take so much more capital and energy..

Here is a video I just found on Premiere Video, the store, with Sam Wade, the owner, keeping Dallas movie/fed. I've traded with him for over 20 years. It might be the only reason to move to Dallas.

If you enjoy Michael Palin's travel shows, this one on Netflix covers my old stomping grounds - Split, Hvar, Mostar, Sarajevo and Dubrovnik occupy most of the show. Sadly, Zagreb was left out since I wanted to see how it looked nowadays.

That video store looks to be a great resource for your area. Our favorite video store around here was a nonprofit run by an Independent movie house in Durham, which featured movies categorized by director. It was a great way to learn about new movies and find some great films we would never have heard of, otherwise. It's been gone for awhile. But between Netflix and our locally owned cinema we have no shortage of interesting films. Haven't been to a video store in awhile.

My daughter and I just watched a double feature of Barry Munday and That's What I Am.

That's What I Am reminds me of a grown up version of A Christmas Story. It's a very good movie, narrated by the adult version of a child:

And it doesn't take the easy path. I like that.

Barry Munday
I watched it without my husband because of the delicate nature of the subject- a guy wakes up in the hospital and finds out his balls have been cut off (after he has been attacked in a movie theater with a musical instrument). Sure, it sounds a little strange- but we liked it. It's a pretty sweet movie, at heart- if you can get past the ball cutting off thing.
