Gary - I was competing with you today on DFNS. I should have figured that's why it was so hard to buy LOL.

The restatements should not be material IMO.

So....little or no interest in Canadian Trusts? Esp oil, gas, timber, power, pipeline...many trading close to August lows....pay anywhere from 10% to 19% per mo right into your acct.

These can be tricky but with a number of people working them we might be able to mitigate some of the risks. Think it over and if you think you might participate or at least READ a thread on these trusts say so here.

I'm interested in the CAD trusts, Gary. More broadly, I've been trying to figure out strategies to set up a future retirement income stream. As part of that I've been gradually shifting funds into SDY, which is an EFT of the 50 highest-yielding companies which have consistently raised their dividends over the past 25 years. The CADs look a bit more dynamic (GGG) but I don't know enough about them.

rufff,
I am not sure why everyone is so fascinated by DFNS. I like their business model, but I have thought all along that as long as they are located in a looming war zone I dont see them being able to function optimally and at some point being forced to abandon their plant

AVSO.. They reported 1st Q earnings last week .. The company did turn a profit finally...02....During the CC the CEO George Davis essentially guaranteed that they would be profitable in the 2nd Q as well the remainder of the year..revenue growth was moderate.. the better bottom line was mostly due to cost cutting and slightly better margins..

The presentation at the CC was very short.. One of the two questions asked at the Q @ A surrounded the impact of the real estate and the housing market(credit market) on their business.. He said that it was a concern of course..One that they were watching closely..but thus far it had not impacted them ...

They have set their goal on profitability ..which is obviously good..but another question addressed the issue of how they were going to grow their bus/revs while focusing on controlling costs..He said that for now they were comfortable with their strategy and felt their sales team was working hard to grow the business..under the current fiscal circumstances.. He stated that they they continue to get new customers and maintained that they were "the leaders" in their business..and that they planned to stay that way..

In what is clearly a tough market environment..Davis seemed
pretty confident (to me anyway) that he was going to deliver the results he promised.. As of the 4th Q of last year they decided to provide less specific guidance for the year due to the fact that last year they misguided(to high)..They feel more comfortable guiding quarter to quarter.. with a broad picture of the coming year..

All in all not an exciting story here..but after an 18 month downtrend here..the company and the stock price may be finding a bottom..takes a lot of patience like many low float BB stocks on this board..it barely trades most days..and in this market I am grateful for that..It seems to have found a range of .80-1.00 in spite of whats happening to the market everyday..thats a hopeful sign as far as I am concerned.. In a better market it may have moved back above 1.00-125..

Regarding DFNS.. If they are based outside the US..isn't the weak US dollar impacting their eps..If so..if and when the US dollar turns..that should help DFNS..I own another company based in Israel..and they have sited the dollar weakness as a cause of their weaker eps..Anyway..sorry for going on so long..

Happy Thanksgiving to all here..Tod
