I don't think this is in addition to Janus's ownership of 2.519
million XYLN shares reported in 9/30/96. I mean Janus already had
2.519 million XYLN shares as of 9/30/96, and the ownership actually
went down ~20,000 shares.

I hope Mr.Baily just one day decide to dump XYLN stocks at the current
price. We will die!

Although many have said that comm stocks including XYLN will go
down further, I think downside from now is very small. I am holding
onto my XYLN for a little while (at least I will break even, life
sucks but goes on...)

fROM THE RUMOR MILL. I heard that Paul Johnson at Robbie Stephens is going to reintiate coverage on Xylan with a buy. There are some indications that this could be true. The Ropbbie Stephens conference did invite XYLAN at first. However, now they are inviting Xylan to the conference. Very Interesting?

with xyln profitable and growing so quickly- is there really that much downside risk

it seems to me that xyln is not cscc and should be back in the high 20's in short time

what do you think

thanks

Sure there is downside on Xylan. There is downside on any growth stock that is unable to maintain growth. The problem Xylan has is that they totally hyped their IPO, but were unable to overperform on the numbers in 1996. Fortuantely, their business is relatively strong and it expected to get much stronger in Q3( Ihave heard numbers of 35% seqential growth from q3 to q4.) So, Xylan would be clearly undervaled at these level of 27X 97 Est., if they are in fact growing at 50-75%. I feel that Xylan is a good buy at these levels. What would I ratehr buy, Coke a 15% grower trading 35X 97 est or Xylan at these levels. I would rather dabble in a little Xylan. Lets hope Xylan can come in with their numbers in Q2 and other MM agree with me.
We shall all see in the coming months..

I think the main worry right now is will xyln be able to continue to match these expected growth rates. The big fear is the alliance between COMS, CSCC, and IBM. Remember that IBM is a big customer of Xylan. If Xylan were to lose out to the IP switching of these two companies, it would definately hurt their earnings dramatically. If earnings do grow at their projected rates, I think that Xylan is a great value.

Announcements made today:

Xylan and IBM implement service agreement

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1997-- Xylan Corp Wednesday announced that IBM Corp. will work with
Xylan as a key service provider, allowing Xylan to offer its customers on-site hardware replacement for all of its products sold in
the United States, using IBM's network of qualified customer engineers.

Xylan's new four-hour on-site service program will initially be launched in 30 cities.

Ed Zaval, Xylan's vice president of service and support, said: "This is an important addition to our service and support offerings.
IBM will stock spares, train its field personnel and deliver rapid-response on-site service to our customers. It's an important part
of the strategic relationship between our two companies."

Xylan and BellSouth announce contract

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1997--BellSouth has entered into a three-year contract with Xylan Corp
to use Xylan's OmniSwitch and PizzaSwitch products in the carrier's Native Mode LAN Interconnection (NMLI) service.

NMLI is a transparent LAN interconnection service designed to connect customers' LANs, at native speed, across BellSouth's
network. BellSouth currently offers Ethernet and Token Ring LAN connectivity, and plans to add Fast Ethernet connectivity to the
service offering.

The Xylan switch technology will enable BellSouth to gracefully migrate its NMLI service from the current architecture to a more
robust network architecture, handle the wide variety of network interfaces and protocols that customers are using, and provide
platforms that can be used to deploy world-class service offerings.
