i feel for the ford employees.... and they're certainly not the only ones in the region getting laid off.... pretty steep cuts in the manufacturing sector. weaker dollar might help, somewhat. ask the people at the consumer goods companies how much they like a strong dollar policy. of course, the strong dollar is great if you're planning any international travels.

did you see that the bushies are predicting economic growth to double next year to about 3.5%? good news but the market isn't buying it right now. hope they're right.

certainly, with inventories way down, a turnaround could happen quickly... maybe a catylyst could be the european bank lowering rates (they had a benigh inflation report today) which combined with a weaker dollar could spur some tech sales... also saw a report that movie studios are getting together to offer online movies to combat piracy. that could be a broadband driver..

my guess is the people who are skeptical of that estimate are the same ones who didn't believe them back in december of last year when they said we were going to see an economic slowdown....<g>

re: budget projections, Who gives a crap? I hope they spend all of the social security surplus so they don't have anything left to pay the blood-sucking seniors and watch them whine. If you think there's whining on this board, you haven't seen anything yet.knc

Has everyone noticed the very low trading volume in both MRVC and LMNE?

In LMNNE we could very well set a record low. (Low was 78K on 8/13/01) We likely will not set a record for MRVC (low was 432,000 on 7/3/03) but for an options expiration Friday, it's very low. I was checking MRVC volume on a 30 minute basis and the volume for the 30 minutes beginning 11:30 EST was a record. The large trades (10K +) were at the beginning and middle of day and were buys.

What does it mean? Beats me, but my guess is that traders are waiting and watching. If we look like we're going to break $5, volume will certainly pick up. Probably if NAZ starts to recover, we'll also see a surge. Overall, on a day when NAZDAQ is teetering on the brink, I think it's positive.

Kv..too shocked to comment. Are you feeling well? No flame intended, but the statement is not like you...We will all get old, and will probably all need some kind of help.

bruce, it certainly appears nobody is willing to really step up to the plate on either side... maybe there's not that much left for capitulation. kind of "spent", so to speak. doubt there's much in the way of people on margin in mrv...at least i hope not. guess we'll see if it gets under 5.
