Micron Announces Agreement to Acquire Virtensys

8:00 AM ET 1/20/12 | GlobeNewswire

Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:MU), and Virtensys Ltd. today announced that the companies have signed an agreement for Micron to acquire the assets of privately held Virtensys, a provider of PCIe-sharing solutions based in Manchester, England and Beaverton, Ore.

The transaction would further strengthen Micron's enterprise storage portfolio by combining Virtensys' award-winning PCIe virtualization technology with Micron's solid state drives (SSDs), enabling data centers to share local storage across multiple servers.

"Virtensys' PCIe-sharing technology has helped change the way data center operators manage and deploy their virtualized I/O resources, and Micron's enterprise PCIe drive delivers market-leading speed, reliability and power efficiency," said Edward Doller, Micron Vice President and Chief Memory Systems Architect. "This agreement would enable a combination of enterprise technology solutions that have the opportunity to virtualize SSD storage on the path to a more flexible and dynamic data center."

"Virtensys has served as an OEM focused company working to deliver innovative solutions with some of the world's leading server, storage and I/O adapter manufacturers," said John Nicholson, Virtensys Chairman and CEO. "Our technology complements Micron's enterprise products as we strive to empower the virtual data center, and we are delighted to join the Micron family."

The transaction is subject to closing conditions and is currently anticipated to close by the end of the month. Specific terms of the proposed agreement are confidential.

Micron Technology, Inc., is one of the world's leading providers of advanced semiconductor solutions. Through its worldwide operations, Micron manufactures and markets a full range of DRAM, NAND and NOR flash memory, as well as other innovative memory technologies, packaging solutions and semiconductor systems for use in leading-edge computing, consumer, networking, embedded and mobile products. Micron's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ under the MU symbol. To learn more about Micron Technology, Inc., visit www.micron.com.

This is the weekly look at the Group stocks in terms of percent change.

A very strong week for the semis particularly, but all numbers are looking good. Only one itty, bitty, stumble by the NASDAQ on Friday at the bottom line.

This is a longer 6 week look at the Group stocks in terms of percent change.

The big news here is the last 3 weeks of bottom line upside for both the Group and SOX. This is the first time that has happened in essentially the past year as noted in last week's report.

This is the update of the 13 week rolling quarter for the Group stocks in terms of percent change.

We are back to seeing lots and lots of green for the 13 week period. Only WFR was the big killjoy. January so far is looking a lot like last October, 3 months ago while we were waiting for, and observing, the quarterly reporting period. A very strong October turned into a very weak November which turned into an up/down December. Will that sort of action continue for the rest of January on into February? That sort of action is really a strong affirmation of the old saying, "buy the rumour, sell the news".

This is the weekly look at the SOXM stocks in terms of percent change.

All stocks are up for the week, 5 of the 20 are up 10 percent or more.

This is a longer look at the SOXM stocks in terms of percent change.

SOXM and SOX have been on a "roll" for the past 6 weeks, up more than 10 percent. If next week continues strong, with the week of 12/16 rolling off to the left, the gains will be quite spectacular for the 6 week period.

This is the update of the 13 week rolling quarter for the SOXM stocks in terms of percent change.

This picture is not quite as "green" as the Group picture, but nearly so.
