Speaking of autos, rumor has it that Ford and Q will announce telematics deal soon. There has been a bit of publicity in the U.S. lately about the dangers of high-tech communication gear in autos so they may delay the announcement until the fuss dies down.

I'm aware of the Mercedes phone which works out of the same box as the radio and stereo but did not know about the Volvo gizmo.

Shameless plug: All auto use will be OK when Q's voice recognition technology is made available to car manufacturers.

<Considering all of these factors, we are
currently projecting earnings in the second half of the year to be lower than we originally projected. Actual results will depend
upon the type of agreements that materialize. >

Like I said, You worry about IDC.

the needs of millions of people who take the coffee home should outweigh the needs of people who can't wait and have to have an open container of hot beverage in their laps in a moving car

What the hell. This is Amurica. Everyone drinks in the car. Ford's customer research showed that the single most sought-after feature in a new vehicle is good drink holders. We have a long tradition going back to LBJ tossin' back Lone Stars on the back 40 as he mowed down his cows. Uh, I mean animal companions.

Ruffie-boy,

Would this be something to worry about?

(From today's CC:) "The number of essential patents which we hold in the standard is growing. In the second quarter, we had additional InterDigital intellectual property accepted in the W-CDMA standard. We also identified additional patented inventions that would be essential to the W-CDMA standard. We expect the total number of essential patents to continue to grow as we invent more wireless technology and as the standards are refined..."

Nothing I have read supports what you say. You are almost certainly wrong.

Thanks for that "heads up"

But I stand pat just yet for the following "CRISCO" ball projection.
From the daily:

OBV hit a new major low on the last selloff
Stoch turned south again just a day back.
MACD Histogram struggles at 0 implying a weak rally in place.
BolBand broke the top at last peak around 58 ( I expected a more aggressive move to 60, but it missed that so far). Still can try again, but usually goes the opposite way after this signal.
RSI fits the H/S and starts to rolloff.
CCI is declining below zero again indicating a new sell signal.

Weekly still performs weakly, target is 39 to me and a good short when the market gives in. NOK is the market and so is the SOX, both troublesome in this rally. Time will tell, but even worst case , I think a "wide and loose " pattern is developing here which can be shorted without good timing, since it climbs higher but also lower each time.

Not short here, and it is an excellent company, I was just reflecting the pattern.

What are the pros and cons, from NOK's perspective, of signing a 3G cdma license agreement later rather than sooner?

Any straightforward response appreciated. Rory

That depends on the IPR terms... I think the disagreement is about the relative value of different companies' IPR. That's always tough to determine objectively. Everybody always thinks their own contribution is crucial. Of course a new standard can have crucial contribution from half a dozen companies. How do you put a dollar value on that?
