AlphaServ.com's AlphaCONNECT StockVue 99 Wins Top Rating From ZDNet; Book On Intelligent Agents Receives Praise From Online Buyers and Reviewers
Business Wire - June 09, 1999 07:44
SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1999-- AlphaServ.com(TM) (Nasdaq/NM:ALMI), dba name for Alpha Microsystems, has received for the second time ZDNet's highest, five-star rating for the latest version of its AlphaCONNECT(R) StockVue(R) (www.stockvue.com) investment-tracking software product, which is a free download.

The same cutting-edge AlphaCONNECT technologies driving StockVue 99 have been introduced to the software development community through a book authored by AlphaServ.com's director of technology, David Pallmann.

AlphaServ.com's AlphaCONNECT information management technologies are used in the development of award-winning software products, such as StockVue 99, and solutions for Internet and corporate network applications, including those for customers of AlphaServ.com's IT services.

Douglas J. Tullio, chairman, chief executive officer and president of AlphaServ.com, said, "The Internet market has matured to the level that applications for sophisticated intelligent agent technologies such as AlphaCONNECT's are beginning to proliferate. The success of Pallmann's book, the continually growing interest in our patented foundation technologies such as NQL, and the success of our end-user products such as StockVue -- not to mention the continued interest from IT distributors and Fortune 1,000 companies -- are powerful proof points for AlphaCONNECT's marketability in the Internet and IT services communities."

StockVue 99, the third generation, investment-tracking desktop application, which demonstrates AlphaCONNECT technologies with a subject matter that is familiar to many consumers -- stocks and mutual funds -- has received the highest available rating -- five stars -- from industry source ZDNet.

This is the second instance that the free product, downloadable at www.stockvue.com as well as ZDNet Software Library (www.zdnet.com/swlib/) and many other download sites, has received this recognition from ZDNet. Information Week, PC Magazine and c-net have also applauded the product in separate reviews. The latest ZDNet review reports that StockVue leverages its "fully configurable agent" and is "Internet technology applied to the financial world."

Many of the AlphaCONNECT foundation technologies developed and marketed by AlphaServ.com are explained in a new book, "Programming Bots, Spiders and Intelligent Agents in Microsoft Visual C++," authored by AlphaCONNECT's director of technology, Pallmann.

The title, published by Microsoft Press, has been selling briskly through one of its many outlets, Amazon.com, where it has been ranked as high as number 63 in the Amazon.com dynamic bestseller sales rank listing and most recently 11 in its category. Barnesandnoble.com also lists the book at the top of its computer programming listing.

A positive review of the book by Richard Dragan, senior software engineer at PC Magazine, also appears on Amazon.com. "David Pallmann provides excellent descriptions of the current state of intelligent Internet software," Dragan writes in the review. "At the heart of this book are the author's fine examples for building basic agent software."

I'm in Australia, so I don't get to see CNBC. Sounds odd that ALMI would warrant a "lengthy" story.

Regards,

Mark

I called Westfalia Investments and talk to Peter Cardillio this morning. Asked him if he knew of any news, he said that there are lots of rumors out their, which we all have seen, but said that he believes Alpha is working on something and that we should hear something. But, he says he doesn't know when it will happen or he can't tell me. I also asked if he would be making any more knewrecommendations on Alpha, and said he couldn't tell me. He said ask me if I like the company,he said yes, ask me if I would buy the company,he said yes. He said, you should do good. If anybody wishes to speak to him, call him at 1-212-391-9230

Hello everyone, my name is Mark and I love using Stockvue. I use it to alert me via my PCS cellphone of News and stock quotes while on the road. Has anyone here that uses it noticed any problems with OTC/BB stock quotes recently?

I see they use quote.com for the updates.

Mark

Mark, I'm probably typical. I didn't read the manual to get started and I got bogged down trying to enter stock symbols because it seemed to only take names that started long and often failing searches for the symbol I already knew.

So, one time again I'll have to sit down and look at why it's not going well. MMaybe even have to read the instructions, but at the very least it has failed the user friendly test.

On another note, there's news. Regards, Mark

Expanding Market Penetration Through Mid-Size ''White Box'' Suppliers
SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 1999-- AlphaServ.com(TM) (Nasdaq/NM: ALMI - news), dba name for Alpha Microsystems, a premier provider of true multi-vendor and professional information technology (IT) services, has been selected by Florida-based Datasys USA, Incorporated, dba Hy-Tech Wholesale (Hy-Tech), a custom system builder and distributor of quality components and peripherals, as the exclusive service provider for its unbranded, or ''white box,'' computers.

Under the terms of the agreement, AlphaServ.com will provide standard and post-warranty support services, help desk services and onsite services for the distributor's white box computing systems, which are marketed to Hy-Tech's growing regional network of more than 2,500 value added resellers (VARs), and computer professionals.

According to Channel Information Services' 1998 Tracking Study, sales of white box or build-your-own PCs by reseller companies in North America totaled 6.37 million units in 1997. Approximately 35,400 reseller companies build white box PCs, representing a $7.6 billion market. According to International Data Corp.'s January 1999 report, white box resellers and retailers now command a market share estimated to be in excess of 30 percent of the total U.S. PC market.

''We've proven our business model through winning contracts with the larger white box distributors such as Ingram Micro and Tech Data and believe this gives us an advantage in targeting the middle market, which is growing dramatically,'' said Douglas J. Tullio, AlphaServ.com's chairman, chief executive officer and president. ''Our multi-vendor capabilities are ideally suited for white box manufacturers and this is the next logical market for us to continue our organic growth strategy.''

Through its agreement with AlphaServ.com, customers will be provided with upgraded services such as depot repair, 7x24 coverage, four-hour and next-day response, and on site services including diagnostic help desk support.

''We believe our high quality of service is a differentiating factor between Hy-Tech and other white box manufacturers,'' said Craig Conklin, president of Hy-Tech Wholesale/Datasys, USA, Incorporated. ''We believe in backing our non-branded systems with a reliable IT services program and selected AlphaServ.com because of its proven track record, leading-edge technology and vendor neutrality.''

Peter Cardillo--Westfalia Investments--Bloomberg 06/23/99 Free email service
Company Symbol Industry Recent Price
Alpha Microsystems ALMI Software & Programming 6 3/8
Dell Computer DELL Computer Hardware 37 3/8

Talking Points
ALMI is Mr. Cardillo's "favorite--a little gem of a company." The 2nd quarter of this year will be likely profitable "for the first time in a long time." ALMI recently announced a new IT (information technology) service contract with computer peripheral manufacturer Hy-Tech Wholesale. The stock is a "terrific buy" at its present level. ALMI is also a takeover candidate.

Dell "stock has had a rough year but is finally coming back from a technical standpoint." Mr. Cardillo believes the stock could reach the $42 - $43 range and feels the technology sector well rebound later this year. "Dell is going to comeback strong."
