LINUX to be around for a long time.....[cnet]IBM plans to begin a $200 million, four-year effort to promote the Linux operating system in Europe by forming alliances with Linux-focused companies and using 600 specialized consultants, according to reports.
IBM hopes to boost Linux's use as a business applications operating system by making hardware, software and specialists available at seven Linux development centers, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The company has exclusive rights to bundle on its computers software from Logix, a French company that has exclusive rights to distribute Red Hat's Linux-adapted software in France and Belgium, the paper said.
IBM, Red Hat and at least 45 other companies formed the Embedded Linux Consortium to promote the free computer operating system that competes with Microsoft's Windows. |
