It's one of those train wrecks where it will take some time before the entire set of rail cars stop jack knifing and careering off the tracks. Like all accidents it was preventable but in many ways inevitable.
The UK's industrial safety laws are an interesting study in such circumstances. The modern version was initiated by a gifted woman politician called Barbara Castle. I am no admirer of woman politicians but Barbara Castle was an exceptional MP. It was another woman politician, Margaret Thatcher who pulled the teeth of the system in place that left the UK's safety laws where they are today. Lots of B/S where the same ol same ol keeps happening. It's all quite sickening -ng-
The fact was though, the laws that were revolutionized by Barbara Castle
et al
were very out of date and reflected Victorian working practices with decades of union overtones. They really were a mess and the unions objected every step of the way to reform. There was a period of around 10 yrs approx. 1975 till about 1985 where the new laws really were an inspiration to better working practices.

So, in short, my view is things have to get very f**ked up for any real reform to be made. That is the only situation were the necessary political will is developed. The circumstances do require really talented people to fix the problem. Today’s Gordon Brown and the Fabian society are not equal to the task at hand imho. I doubt they even have a clue.
I need to think about storing food for the longer term. Six months isn't going to cut it. Difficult to visualize all the possible scenarios one will have to deal with. Being left destitute being one of them. Fortunately my kids are grown now and we are all of working age with a good set of skills. Even if we lose our current wealth I feel confident we can generate another stack.

Looks like business might be a little slow this morning.
Should probably pick up again this afternoon, though, the way things have been going lately. <g/ng>
