If Janet Reno had shown even one tenth of the patients she has exhibited in this Elian Gonzolez (little Cuban boy) affair at the WACO Mount Carmel Compound...there would likely be many little AMERICAN children still alive!

A sad commentary!

It's tax time.....again. After all the horror stories that were told on The Hill and the agency was exposed for the bullies they are, has the IRS changed as promised?

As government agencies go, this particular one is as screwed up as it gets. I don't mind paying my fair share. I do mind being penalized for their mistakes and their inept handling of my taxes for the past 12 years. You'd think that after so much time has passed and so many form letters (9 in all)from them telling me that yes, we made an error in our calculations and we do owe you money, however, the statute of limitations on the government remittance is up (3 years). No we can't apply what we owe you and what we should've paid you to your current years taxes. They can go back as many years as they want to get money from you but, they're only liable for 3 years? It took them 9 years to figure out that they screwed up, this after garnishing wages but not applying a 10,000. payment made 9 years previous when this whole mess started.

When it was all said and done and the name calling subsided, they did admit that they were in error 12 years ago. Their excuse was they're an under funded high stress department of the US government. They have a high turnover rate among their "in office people" (what ever that means) at the local level and therefore errors are to be expected.

Only a government agency is allowed to operate in this fashion.

Oh well.......

AN AMERICAN DISGRACE

Literally hundreds and hundreds (over 700) of AMERICAN children are held in foreign countries against the will of at least one parent of US citizenry.

HAS THE MEDIA COVERED EVEN ONE OF THOSE STORIES even one one-hundredth as much as the little CUBAN boy. The answer is a resounding NO!

By holding this little Cuban boy in American against HIS FATHER'S WILL the government of this country puts at risk all the efforts to bring those HUNDREDS of AMERICAN CHILDREN home.

THIS IS TRULY AN AMERICAN DISGRACE!

Disgusted,
LG

I'd sure hate to live in the neighborhood where he is now. How do those people sleep or for that matter how do they get to work each day? The streets are filled 24 hrs a day with protesters chanting and media crews.

The government, the present administration, has shown us yet again, it's ability to take a simple matter and screw it up to the nth degree.........then the media picks up the ball and runs and runs and runs and runs..............

PatiBob: By all accounts, it would seem that the father had a very good and loving relationship with his son. Back in Cuba Elian has both sets of loving grandparents and additional relatives as well.

The extended Cuban family in the US as I understand it, had not as much sent Elian a rattle or birthday card during his life prior to coming to the US. Now they are the more loving branch of the family. Forget the grandmothers that came from Cuban and now the boys father.

As I understand Elians great uncle in Miami has not held a steady job for years, some outstanding role model?heh?

Finally today I saw some mention of the hundreds of AMERICAN children being held in foreign countries against the US parents will. It was just a short blurb on CNN.

THIS IS AN AMERICAN DISGRACE. Once again this government puts the interest of foreigners ahead of the interest of their own citizens. It is all about the vote in Florida, not doing what is right.

Janet Reno did not even think about going to WACO before the many AMERICAN children were burned to death. Where was her mantra of being patient then?

LG

AN AMERICAN DISGRACE

I will tell you what the American disgrace is...it is that our Media has heavily covered the story of one little Cuban boy for months and months. During this time a young American boy was dragged to death by a car-jacker...it got little coverage. An even bigger disgrace is that hundreds of American children are being kept in foreign counties against the will of an American parent or have been kidnapped and taken to a foreign country against the will of an American parent. And the American media has basically ignored this...THIS IS AN AMERICAN DISGRACE!

What has Janet Reno done to bring any of these American children home? Has she gone to even one foreign country to try and negotiate the return of one American child? Has any major member of the Clinton administration tried to rescue just one American child? It is a disgrace that such attention has been shown this one little Cuban boy while ignoring the desperate cries for help by our own citizens.

THIS IS AN AMERICAN DISGRACE.

Regards,
LG
