to be fair to rfp. rfp is a trial deal and for the trial 100K does not sound that bad. Plus to that 250K is a possible number connections.

I tend to agree... i wasn't under the impression that the rfp was a trial. What makes this any different then the ~40 trials that WSTL is in today... just size? 40 trials is the number WSTL quoted. 100k modems seems to be alot for a trial?

Bill I did not mean this sort of trial. The ganq of 4 is trying the idea out. The intend of the gang is to rder far more modems (acording to analysts) in 98 and after. The deal with Alcatel is at this point limited to 97 with 100K modems. That sounds like they are trying it out. Regards -Albert

Since I am my expertise lies more in technology than finance, I am slightly confused as to why AMTX stock did not rise significantly on the TI news. Several RFPs and telcos have indicated that they want multiple foundries and sources of technology and AMTX is now the only DMT vendor that can fill that need.
That's not even to mention the fact that AMTX's technology passed muster with the folks at TI-- a good indication that the technology is sound as some of our recent lab tests have proven

Anyway, any idea why AMTX shares dont seem to budge?

Kieran T: I too am a finance novice like you, but an expert told me that when a "dream" piece of news is issued on a stock and the stock price doesn't react up or trades down, in fact, then this is the characteristic of an overbought stock. I don't know, but that kind of makes some sense to me. What do you think?

VOD Trial Service start

Samsung Electronics start VOD trail service for Yoido 50 Households

Samsung Electronics Co. launched VOD trial service yesterday at Yoido Seoul Korea targeting 50 households April 8, Samsung Electronics Co. had opening ceremony of VOD trial service at Multi-media Information Center in Yoido, Seoul, provided that it will conduct the service until September targeting 50 households selected from Eun-ha, Dae-kyo, Kong-jak, Kwang-jang, Han-sung apartments in Yoido. Korea Telcom(KT) offers fiber optic cables and telephone lines for the
implementation of the service, whose official name is 'Eye Vision', and Samsung Electronics provides VOD supporting equipments such as set top box, ATM switch and video server.

Samsung explains VOD service is cost effective and can be put on
commercial basis at once while it transmits MPEG1 compressed images(150 times faster than existing modem) through common telephone lines without installing separate fiber optic cables. The most noticeable point is that it introduced a new era of super speed transmission and mass capacity of VOD service by connecting 155Mbps ATM switch to generic Level 1 gateway for the first time around the world.

Samsung has assigned 40 engineers for the system development since 94
and succeeded in developing it's own ATM switch, set top box and ADSL
modem technology for VOD. Furthermore, the company is planning to
produce competitive products by joining strategic partnership in early
stage with Digital, GI and Amaty which are core VOD server and
transmission technology leaders. The service offers about 70 movies,
dramas and documentaries, 16 educational programs and 400 karaoke
programs at free of charge and is expected to expand to 500 households
in near future.

Distinctive from the existing CATV service, every household can select
programs around the clock by connecting set top boxes connected to TV
sets to VOD service network.

Curly, Kieran,

Myabe the fact that AMTX has not gone down relative to
the other xDSL stocks (WSTL,AWRE,ORCTF) is equivalent to
a rise in the price if these other stocks had stayed even.

j r: I think you're right on the "equivalent rise" theory. That relates to the past couple weeks. But, during the last two days other adsl stocks have stayed about even "equivalent", while AMTX had news and others didn't.

Id have to agree with that view-- it appears that all of the copperstocks took a hit this week (some more than others ;-) ) but AMTX has retained its postition-- Id imagine when these stocks rebound, AMTX should perform well but thats just IMHO.
