We had a toilet tank burst a leak today. I first heard a noise in our gas fireplace downstairs. I looked behind the screen and saw moisture splatters. Then I saw a drip going down the wall in the downstairs bathroom. I found water all over the floor in the upstairs bathroom and saw that the tank had sprung a serious leak. It leaked into the space between the floors, and now we have a blister and a drip coming from the family room ceiling. What a mess. We thought we were done with water problems when we left Alaska.

I suspect it was a Chinese valve or seal that failed. I'm getting to the point where I won't buy anything Chinese anymore if it has to function. I've had too many failures on Chinese products for it to be accidental.

The Hopewell people got copper by heating certain rocks, I'm sure. They got obsidian either by trade or travel to the Yellowstone country.

After reading 1491, I am very impressed with how inventive and creative people were. They created many crops that are our staples today. Corn, squash, pumpkins, etc.

That is precisely why, whenever I go away for more than an overnight, I turn off the water.

Imagine if this had happened the day after you left for your trip back East.

I didn't see the first yr either, so my dvr is set. And welcome back! We haven't been to Victoria in ages but really loved it the last time we went. The most memorable thing we did was a tour of the Anne Hathaway house, and both of us felt like it was one of the best tours we'd ever taken. We learned a lot about the history of little sayings we hear on a regular basis (such as "watch your 'Ps' & 'Qs'" and also about the architecture of that era, the importance of the garden and how people interacted with one another. We were there on a walking tour on that visit, and only had 14 hrs, so we didn't go out to Butchart Gardens, but we'd been there before, so we focused on the interesting things in downtown Victoria. In retrospect, I wish we'd stayed the night............the whole experience was magical.

House! Over the years we've replaced the old anodized aluminum windows with wood windows, and have two left to do. We ordered those + we're going to replace the slider in the master bedroom as it's just old and worn out. We also ordered a new garage entry door, doors for the entry closet and a door for the entrance to the bedroom wing. We watch websites to find sales and then make our orders. We have two more closet doors to order and then that part is done. We will have to deliver all of the doors in the house to our painter so he can get them stained or painted as needed. Hubby will have to put in hours getting the new ones hung and the old ones (having them all painted) re-hung, but the end result is going to be great. Then it's on to remodeling both bathrooms. Not to mention all of the outside work that we need to get done. Hubby decided to semi-retire last month and he's really starting to go to town on the house. I'm loving it!
