Ken, I guess Thunderbird is similar to Outlook Express? If I had lost my password, I'd try to delete email account info and then reinstall the account. You will probably need info from your ISP.

I inquired with Customer Service as to how one goes about direct registering shares in my IB account. The reply follows. Is this consistent with the understanding everyone else has?

"IB hold all shares in street name only so you cannot direct register. IB also does not offer paper certs unless we are required to, which may occur due to a corporate action or securities regulation. There are firms that will allow direct registration and paper certs so if you want this you could transfer out the shares. Check with the company you hold stock in and inquire if they can recommend a broker or stock holding company. Please respond with any questions."

TIA

sounds like it is time to move brokers

brokers have been moved...the monday after the sunday that i learned the full extent...

ot

in the late 90's, during the internet bubble, i was chatting with an old uncle (he passed in 2000) about investing in the stock market. he looked at me with his beady eyes and said, "they'll steal your money."

at the time i recall thinking, "not if you pay attention. there are laws, after all."

but he was right and i was wrong.

are we going to see a "run on the brokers?"

I have a laptop that I am updating for a trip. It will not run TWS. I have uninstalled and re-installed. No errors. I have uninstalled JAVA (all versions) and re-installed. When I try to use TWS I get a missing shortcut. Cannot find javaw.exe.

Any ideas what is happening?

Vista 64 bit PC.

gtober, how about running the "browser based" TWS? individuals.interactivebrokers.com

Or, install TWS again but first download java from here individuals.interactivebrokers.com

from the site
NOTE: You must have the Java plug-in (version 1.5 or higher) installed on your computer before you begin this installation process. Click here to download the free Java plug-in. IMPORTANT: If you are upgrading to Java 1.5, you must first remove all existing Java components from your PC. Please use the Add/Remove Programs feature on the Control Panel to remove the currently installed version and its components.
