Scott, I realize this is a sensitive sticky issue, but I do wish someone would take a look at the *banning participants* as a way to improve SI.
First of all, if someone grossly violates the terms of the TOU I have no problem with SI exercising their ban (or suspend) privilege.
But here's what I would like to see improved. When someone is banned, they should be told clearly and explicitly why they were banned, what TOU they violated, and why it's an important TOU to enforce.
To me, that's the least SI should do as a banning methodology. I realize this isn't some exact science, but the SI team should continuously be looking for ways to remove the *subjective* nature of banning.
SI should never forget that banned members are also customers. So banning should be a difficult decision done with great care.
Just to be on the up-and-up. I've never been banned, nor threatened with suspension. This is just my perception from hearing from friends and acquaintances via email who have been banned or suspended.
And if I hold this perception, I'll wager many other members of SI do to. So, perhaps clear communications when a member is banned from a thread, to the thread participants should also take place.
Thanks, Mike |
