It appears that Dell got caught in Intels catch 22 Floppermine problems and escalating DRAM pricing. This double whammy doesn't bode well for Dell this Q. I'd say you are right about the "dead" money scenario. Same for Gateway

Oh well...
This stock should drift, most likely south for a while.

<<The CC is a sign of healthy management. DELL's long range prospects are unchanged>>

Wrong!

DELL is becoming another loser in the industry like CPQ in couple years ago. The management did not do a good job. DELL needs a great deal of change in the management. The best thing now is to get ride of Mr. Dell. I said so 6 months ago and I am saying it again now. Whoever upgrades DELL today is totally out of his mind.

GV or Anyone: Do you recall if Meredith stated that Dell's revenue growth rate would be either (A) "low 30's" or (B) "30%" for the next fiscal year?

JRI, I don't know what Meredith specifically said. My notes read, "Growth rate will be closer to 30%" which is kind of in between your two.

Z,
RE:"Whoever upgrades DELL today is totally out of his mind."...

Anyone remember Ed Hart from CNBC...?

His definition of hold was..."You hold while I sell"...
Don't be surprised if those upgrading... are bailing out the same day...
Kind of a common practice on Wall Street these days...

This stock is a sinkin' ship...slowly but surely.

Re:Here's the WSJ article on Dell. First Mikey says '2000 will be a great year' Now Mikey says 'we need to kickstart demand'. Then Mikey says 'we don't see any Y2K issues', now Mikey says 'the biggest impact on our quarter was Y2K'. Is this 'Taco Dell'???

This is the most unbelievable part of the whole disaster, Mr. Dell sugarcoated the whole thing when they all knew there were issues or COULD be issues, instead they made these statements. VERY IRRESPONSIBLE to shareholders, especially those who"trust" what this management says. I think dell may have too many friends and family members on the BOD b/c right now they need someone to give a swift kick in the a$# to the management team and turn this baby around, ie sharebuybacks.(If they are not buying why should anyone else?)

So you know better than Michael Dell (since that was not his explanation)? Or do you think he lied?
