Jim:

New England Wireless appears to be a limited partnership which has won some PCS auctions:

Not sure how this helps us to find out what is going on.....

Thanks Reagan for your research. The last two links pretty much sum it up. It looks like a very good place for IDC to start . The only problem I can see that we may face is vendor financing. Most of the winning bidders in the auctions expect vendor financing . As you probably know many companies such as Nextwave are all having problems in that area. On the bright side financing a project may be easier in the US than abroad because you don't need the world bank being involved. Another option would be for New England Wireless is to go public with Worldwide Wireless and finance there own system with the proceeds , or to get some private investors to finance one of the three bids won and use it for a model.

The last paragraph of text got wrapped in my last post and it is not to clear. What it roughly states is New England Wireless won bids on three locations covering around 500,000 people for about 12,500,000 million dollars. Now if we figure 10 % of the people subscribe to the system we are talking about 50,000 subscribers. Not big by any means but big enough to be a nice working model.

Todays WSJ states the Elipso license after waiting 7 years will be issued any day. The system is expected by the year 2000 and they will be selling air time to providers for about 8 cents a minute. The providers will then market it for 15 cents. I think this is very attractive pricing. The article just like Elipso Web site makes no mention of B-CDMA.

<< Ellipso Web site no mention of B-CDMA>>
I have talked to Mr. Neil Howard, Mobile Communication Holdings Inc.,
last April. He mentioned that MCHI will use IDC's B-CDMA once the
company received license from FCC.
He can be contacted at 1-800-355-4776.

The Ellipso web site talks about 2.5M and 5MHz CDMA stuff. It lists all the companies involved in building the different sub-systems.

The high for today was 5 5/16 at the bell, and then 32,000, 1000, 1000, and 600 traded at 5 1/2 just after the bell. Does anyone have an idea as to what would cause IDC to bounce off 5 1/16 and skip over 5 3/8 and 5 7/16 and trade at 5 1/2 all in the last 1 1/2 hours. I'm not complaining, just wondering. Thanks in advance.

Kim,
Thank you for the phone number and I think we should all call and ask about what technology they are going to use. The announcement below came out 05/31/1994 which is over three years ago. This is the only time I have ever seen anything mentioned that B-CDMA will be used by Ellipso. With the stock up almost 5 % between the high and the low today maybe others figure Ellipso will now license B-CDMA. We still face the problem of full mobility but by the time the system is up in 2000 that may be history. The Ellipso site shows us that there is quite a few big players behind them. At the annual meeting it was said that there would be at least one more licensing agreement before the end of the year so maybe it will be Ellipso . The below announcement said the two parties signed a contract but no mention of licensing. Hopefully this is why there is no mention on the Ellipso site of B-CDMA because they are not licensed yet.

05/31 1708 InterDigital's technology selected for Mobile ...

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (MAY 31) BUSINESS WIRE - May 31, 1994--InterDigital
Communications Corp. (ASE:IDC) announced Tuesday that its Broadband-Code Division Multiple Access (B-CDMA) technology will be used for ELLIPSO, the innovative mobile satellite system of Mobile Communications Holdings Inc. (MCHI).
The two parties signed the contract last week.
The ELLIPSO Low Earth Orbit -- Medium Earth Orbit (LEO/MEO) project is designed to provide satellite services for mobile and fixed subscribers. The industry anticipates millions of subscribers will use this type of service by the year 2000.
Dr. Donald Schilling, InterDigital's president and chief executive officer, said, "We are pleased to be selected to participate in the ELLIPSO project with satellite industry leaders such as MCHI, Fairchild Space and Defense, Harris, Westinghouse and Israel Aircraft Industries."
Schilling went on to say, "Our staff's experience in space communication technology used in the Space Shuttle, meteor burst, and direct broadcast television, will ensure that potential ELLIPSO subscribers will have wired line quality communications second to no other satellite system."
Dr. David Castiel, MCHI president, said that InterDigital's outstanding technology will add further strength to the world class corporate team behind the ELLIPSO project...now the leader in the Big LEO race.
