Micromax works good even when Webbroken is down...it still takes them 32 minutes to approve a trade however....

I spoke to TD Greenline today, and they said no one could have ever expected the rise in trading, I enquired why Web-Broken was down lately in the morning, and the excuse is because that is when everyone wants to trade. I mentioned that not getting my trades had cost me several thousand dollars this morning and he said that they were very sorry and that TD waterhouse was doing the best they could. I asked him to send me a cheque for $65,000.00 as that is the amount presently in cash in my account and that I was going to move to Schwabb or someone interested in servicing my account. He said they had every available person on the phone lines. I told him that it was time they stopped advertizing for new accounts till they could service the ones they had. In the end they are sending me a cheque on the 7th, and on Monday I will find a new Broker. I left my account open with only about $40,000. worth of stock in it,
I also mentioned this thread on Silicon Investor, he didn't know it existed. So does anyone know of a good online broker? I am almost not trading till I find one.

Peter, same question here, don't think there's a simple answer. Here's a thread for Royal Bank Action Direct complaints:
Message 13049622
and one for Schwab (US crowd has complaints)
Subject 17800

but I feel the Cdn Schwab is perhaps the answer as the min. acct is $10k which may help.
I have a Schwab application but haven't taken action yet.
Let us know what you decide, we all need direction.
John.

Try InvestorLine. Few years ago I had problem with Greenline and my market order somehow was delayed for more than 1/2 hour. I called and the agent could not tell me why. When I talked to a supervisor, his manner was really bad. He didn't want to find out why my market order was delayed. He told me that he had no time to deal with a small account which traded penny stocks. Sure, my account was small at that time and I traded penny stocks but I did a lot of trades.

I moved my account to InvestorLine after that and I have no problem. Right now, InvestorLine also suffer staff shortage and sometimes its internet site has problem, but when I talk to my friends who have accounts with Greenline, I think InvestorLine is still better than Greenline.

I am presently ahead quite a bit on my trading. I am considering buying some kind of dividend producing stock for some of the money I trade with, right now I am thinking about Nova Scotia Power among others, and simply stopping for a couple of months. Presidents Choice Bank will give me 4 1/2% daily interest on every dollar I deposit, and with the 6.47% dividend from NSH my money would continue to grow, while I wait out the present situation. I am going to look into Schwab tomorrow, as today is my day to clean the house...... Spring is coming and I have a large lot that needs new landscaping, the way I feel about the market right now, Cash may be a really good place to be......
So I think I am going to pull an Ayn Rand, if I don't find somewhere better to trade and just go on strike...... I did tell the nice young man at TD Waterlogged that I was thinking of moving to Schwab, he didn't seem to be amused.
Perhaps if each of us who is having trouble mentioned that we heard that Schwab gave us an easier time trading, the nice people at WebBroken might try to shape up......

Might as well throw in my 2-bits here too. I've recently had similar problems trading with TD Webfoot - 30+ min for orders to be opened. I spoke with their Vancouver office last week to complain about the lack of service and was advised that the problems were industry wide but that they were making every effort, yadda yadda... I will say one thing in their favor - the person (Maurice Lam) I spoke with was very polite, efficient and apologetic. While this doesn't help speed up my trading any, I am at least now prepared to wait a bit before I send in the eTrade application I printed out after my last trade.

I hope the regulators can see fit to expediting the relaxation of the "know-your-client" rules - that should go a long way towards fixing this type of problem.

Does anyone have any data/opinion with different types of trades being made?

I usually trade options (5-10 trades per day) and they usually take about 5-10 minutes to go from "W" to "O". I placed an equity order (first time in a month over web broker) and it took like 30 mins.. I wonder if they give priority to option trades, or maybe they have a better ratio of eyeballers-to-option trades than eyeballers-to-equity trades?

That said, service has been deteriorating rapid.. I no longer trust them enough to place market orders. Has anyone ever gotten them to make any concessions by threatening to close accounts?

James.
