The one reverse split that comes to mind that worked out well was THQI...

Palm also. Truth is, it all depends on circumstances. Usually, it's not a stable company trying to get out of the $1 range, but a tanking company trying to stay listed - which is why so many simply lead to a further price drop.

To assume a reverse split is bad is stupid, IMO.

from beat the street article
The best advice has been invest in what you believe in and make trades in what your gut instinct tells you. Worst advice I think I have ever received has been to buy Sirius (SIRI).

Andre, do you still think the C is right man for the job. In most under performing losing companies the $ stops at the top. We used to complain about this "growth" company with minimal growth. But this last Q was worse and the year end estimates are no better.
I hope for some temporary price hype in the near future to get of this one for good. its not even a good trading stock right now.

What I find rather odd, if not disgusting, is that a small company in my state of Iowa (Iowa Telecom Services - IWA) is doing so well and Covad, a much more nation wide and bigger company, has yet to do much of anything.

This company provides similar services (phone service; long distance and DSL) in a small rural market. And yet, it has a PPS north of $21 and pays a $1.62 divvie to boot.

Perhaps some of you more tech savvy/Covad watchers can 'splain this to me.

The old excuse was that they were banged by regulators, lobbyist of the big telo... constantly forced to reinvent the wheel. C kept promising growth and next year was the promised land. But next year was years ago, matter of fact next year seem to be worse as times goes. Growth promises never materialized cash is down, losses are bigger and pps is under 1 as it was years ago during BK days. The few that covered covd got burned so did funds who then pulled their money out. The CEO and the board are paid well (few millions in performance bonus ironically) the good people (D) moved to a better place. One will be hard press to say anything good about the past, present or near future. There you have it in nutshell.

so why there is no volume at current "steal" price? 100% in 1 year is nothing to sneeze about yet no one is buying.

Looks to me like no one much is selling either - except for panicky retail investors.

Hey, when we hit $2+ a year ago I was the one asking whether we weren't getting ahead of ourselves and did people have any kind of lightening/exit plan. Wasn't particularly popular for saying that.

IMO there's no cause for fear here, the company is treading water, not bleeding out. Is CH the man for the job? I could certainly conceive of someone doing better, but is Covad going to be able to identify and hire that person? Given recent performance, I think management is overpaid, but I think people are dreaming if they think they can replace the current team with a better one at a lower price.

you make a good point, nevertheless Steve Job takes a dollar salary yet he is the highest paid CEO. Its all tied to his performance. Dov Moran who was the founder and CEO of M sys had the same deal over many years (at 4 pph and 40). He sold the company many years later to sndk never taking more then a buck in salary. I dont think the shareholder care how much the CEO makes if he is preforming. Right now 1 dollar is a fair price for a company/ceo that consistently under preform. 2 is not in the cards right now. 1.2 will be a gift. We used to have coverage and buy recommendations but they all got burned once and again. The litmus test will be the pps on the days after the CEO is fired (if it happens). Something tells me we will be up not down (the market will see it as short term positive)
