Napster founder hobnobs with Andreessen at auction
By Bloomberg News
May 22, 2000, 11:40 a.m. PT

Warren Buffett, who has said Internet stock values show that "the ability to monetize shareholder ignorance has probably never been exceeded," found himself the other night
partying in the center of dot-com mania.

The 69-year-old mogul joined a charity auction at the Silicon Valley home of investor Ron Conway Friday night, along with about 300 fellow billionaires and would-be billionaires--some young enough to be his grandchildren.

One guest, too young to drink and sitting out the bidding, had plenty to celebrate.

Shawn Fanning, 19-year-old founder of Napster, got word earlier in the day that his San Mateo, Calif.-based company, creator of the popular software that lets people find and share music files over the Internet, would get a $15 million investment from venture capital firm Hummer Winblad.

"His life's going to change," said fellow Napster executive Chris Phenner, corralling Fanning and two other company executives for a chat with Marc Andreessen, the 29-year-old co-founder of Netscape Communications. Andreessen has "been through it all," in Phenner's words.

BB, it seems that the number of post on this tread are great turning points indicators, or will also this indicator go to the way side?

Are any folks willing to go out on a limb to call this the successful retest, and double bottom in the compx? It didn't feel very climatic, but I'm not sure that's a requisite for a retest. Although the total volume wasn't great, there were a lot of shares traded in the tech leaders, which would lead the way higher. Total equity and index calls/put contracts traded Friday were 1.8 million/1.5 million, the highest number of puts to calls I've seen in years.

Anybody willing to go out on a limb and make a call? (not me)

John

Today was the first time since mid April that the Nasdaq volume has moved above the average daily volume. The flip side is that the average has fallen down to around $ 1.5B.

Good observation Les...

Moving above average daily volume with the strong close we had might be suggestive of a rally within the context of a Bear market... 3200 to 3400 on a closing basis, looks like the trading range for now... But, all this could change with a pick up in volume...

That 10400 area on the Dow has been a pretty reliable support area... The NDX is where the early signs of a bottom will show because of all those big gun companies there... People will dip their toes in those waters first...

Haim,
You can't use that indicator anymore as the censor has been banning posters he doesn't like which is apparently half of the planet.

Haim, makes me think there hasn't been enough pain yet if they're all still partying...but then again, maybe 'this time it's different'. <g>

With today's action, stage is set for NAZ to break 3000
by friday. Unless NAZ consolidates around 2900 level, we
will never see a steady and strong upward action for NAZ.
