This will be a very speculative post.
I read somewhere that this entire investigation with Anthony started as the Feds were investigating various money trails to and from Arab charities. Presumably, as a result of Anthony's family who are quite active in such causes.
I will make the assumption that Anthony came to the Feds attention in this manner. Apparently, as this story goes, the Feds stumbled across information that appeared in the FBI data base and thus did the Feds interest in Anthony begin.
If these assumptions are warranted, and I admit they may not be, this would've begun a rather major investigation into all of Anthony's affairs. Given the nature of the data base information it would've been reasonable for the FBI to contact other companies that Anthony was shorting or had recently shorted. The FBI may have run into some pretty disgruntled CEO's.
One can not eliminate the possibility that one or more CEO's made up the extortion story about Anthony to exact their revenge, but on the other hand, I would think that the FBI, faced with this kind of allegation, would've been keenly interested in obtaining taped confirmation of such an act. I don't think they would want to completely rely on the good word of a livid CEO. I'm strongly inclined to believe that the investigation that culminated in Anthony's arrest took place over a period of months.
Obviously, none of us are privy to the evidence, but I don't think the FBI are the bumbling keystone cop figures that some attribute to them. My guess is the Feds crossed all the T's and dotted all the i's on this one.
If they don't have taped evidence, I myself will strongly support those who prefer the keystone cop version of the FBI. |
