No, I didn't mean to sound sarcastic. I just found it odd that TGC will be on at the same time as the National College Championship game. This game is the second highest rated TV sports event of year behind the Super Bowl.

They will get buried in the ratings...I guess it makes no difference because this tournament is relatively meaningless with such a small field. I plan on taping it.

Hope to see lots of fireworks on the golf tour this year that we all can all talk about.

Stricker was -5 for his last 5 holes, and -10 for the day to take the lead.

Kevin Na ended eagle, eagle for -9 to wind up in 3rd.

The time difference drove the on-air time, IMO.

If you un-ban me from PfP, I'd like to reply to U.S. bashing like this:

Figuring on each unemployed person has an average of him/her self plus 3 other dependents, that would mean there are about One Hundred MILLION Americans that are feeling the effects of Obama's total nonsense ideas about finding and keeping jobs....PLUS all the businesses that these folks purchase goods and services from....

This would be about 1/3 of our TOTAL population....

Still, all told, 23.7 million Americans are either out of work or underemployed.

Why?

If it would be correct to multiply the negative impact of the unemployed by 3, then it is correct to multiply the positive impact of those employed by 3. And the average workweek was up and the average pay per hour was up in December.

False statements, by KLP or snyone else, should be discouraged.

Does KLP really think that the Employment Report only counts Americans?

Finchem On First Tee Expansion: "We have set out on a course to raise $100 million this year"

Answering a question at Kapalua about future plans, Commissioner Tim Finchem has planned now that the television contract is finished, he revealed what many had feared: a ramping of The First Tee investment and hype. From the transcript:

The opportunity to grow The First Tee Program, which has reached 4.7 million kids in the United States since 1997, teaching core values through the game of golf. We have set out on a course to raise $100 million this year so that we can reach 10 million new kids in the next six years, and that will culminate at Pebble Beach on October 8.

If that is successful, we think that it not just reaches a lot of kids and not just reaches millions of kids with the game of golf and helps them by teaching them core values; but also The First Tee Program is very diverse, women and minorities make up significant percentages, and it helps us go down that road of making sure that golf is something that's successful to everybody.

Imagine the impact the tour would have if they took $50 million of this hoped-for funding and put it into a green fee subsidy program like Youth On Course, and then put the other $50 million into saving/restoring 15 classic muni's in disrepair? I know, I know, the kids wouldn't learn get exposed to the core values..."

Pebble Beach to serve as Tiger's 2012 PGA Tour debut Woods to return to California pro-am for first time in 10 years By Mark Soltau / TigerWoods.com

Tiger last appeared at Pebble Beach in the 2010 U.S. Open, where he tied for fourth. Tiger Woods will make his 2012 PGA Tour debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Feb. 9-12, he announced Monday. It will mark his first appearance since 2002.

"I'm excited to start my PGA Tour season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am," Woods said. "AT&T is a great partner to my Foundation, and I'm looking forward to playing in this event. I haven't been to this tournament lately, but I have a lot of good memories at Pebble. It will be fun going back."

His fondest recollections are from 2000, when he came from five strokes back in the final round of the AT&T to edge Matt Gogel. Four months later, he won the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach by a record-breaking 15 shots.

"It's always been one of my favorite spots," said Woods, who first saw the breathtaking property with his late father, Earl, when he was playing junior golf. "It might be the prettiest place on earth."

Woods, who will begin his new season Jan. 26 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, at the HSBC Championship, last played at Pebble Beach in the 2010 U.S. Open, where he tied for fourth.

Two major changes have occurred in the AT&T tournament since he last competed. The field has been reduced from 180 pros and amateurs to 156, which has improved the pace of play. In addition, the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club has replaced Poppy Hills Golf Course in the three-course rotation, which includes Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill Golf Course.

"I've never played Monterey Peninsula and am looking forward to it," Woods said. "From all I've heard, it's a wonderful course and the greens are fast."

Woods concluded the 2011 season by winning his Foundation's tournament at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., snapping a two-year winless drought. He opens 2012 with 84 worldwide victories, including 71 PGA Tour titles and 14 major championships.

"It was great to finish 2011 strong," said Woods. "More importantly, it's good to be healthy again, and I'm hoping to get off to a fast start."

Well, somebody came to their senses and moved the starting times way back so the Hyundai
tournament will not air at the same time as the BCS game.

Stricker currently on the first tee.

I would guess that most of the players wanted to see the game too.

The tournament was never scheduled to go head to head against BCS, don't know where that rumor started. Here was the TV schedule that was posted on Jan 2nd:

I saw/heard a GC promo on NBC, driving traffic to what will be the replay tonight. If the BCS is lopsided, GC will get a decent audience.

"Golf World Tour Players Course Ranking: Augusta #1

John Antonini reports in Golf World Monday that Augusta National landed in the top spot of Golf World (or anyone else's) first ever PGA Tour player ranking. I can confirm this is correct as this has been a special project in the works for over a year, with reporting work done mostly by Craig Dolch and the package pieced together by yours truly.

I'm scheduled to appear on Thursday's Morning Drive to discuss the player list and their comments, followed by an 11 a.m. ET appearance with Peter Kessler on Sirius 208/XM 93.

And if that's not enough talking, there will be a GolfDigest.com podcast that will help launch the online coverage of the ranking, though print subscribers will get the real treat: our Zagat style summary of each course, with the best player comments featured on all 52 eligible courses."
