I'm sorry to hear that...what happened? Gary and I didn't always agree, but we were friends, and I'm sure he'll be missed.

Janice
I don't have all the details about Gary's death, except that he died in Florida from a pulmonary embolism complicated by emphysema.

He was my very good friend and I will miss him terribly.

Thanks for telling me. That's very sad. He was way too young to die. But pulmonary emboli are hard to survive...

Binder. I just found a short Obit that stated he died on June 18, 2004 in Tamarac, Fl. I am deeply sorry for the loss of Your Friend.

You say that You and Gary were friends?? After the dirty shot you took at him on I-Hub on July 2, 2004? You are hypocrisy at it's worst. Now I know why he never answered me after I PM'd that to him and the last message from him on SI was to me on June 15, 2004. He was not able to.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, Frankie/oldblue, but you're delusional. As I told you at the time, Gary and I were indeed friends, but we disagreed about a great many things. Unlike you, he was big enough to understand that it's possible to disagree and remain friends.

This will be my last message on this subject. I will let Gary's real friends decide if what you posted on I-Hub on a board that Gary has never even posted on was proper and friendly. Delusional huh. Folk's, Bear in mind that Gary never once posted on the CMKX board where this message was dumped on Gary by Janice for whatever reason. I got the message removed but not before it was seen by many because it stayed there for about 12 hours.

"Gary. Janice shell just took a serious shot at you on I-Hub. You may want to address this with Matt. It is a serious violation of privacy. Here is the post she made. Also, Jim Bishop followed it up with a message containing a link to your personal page here on SI.

I'm quite familiar with that piece.

check this out shell.....Short and Distort: The Less Publicized Sister of the Pump and Dump

It was originally written by Gary Swancey, also known as the "Georgia Bard". I've known Gary for years; since around 1998, I think. He was one of the original investor-promoters. He touted many scams, and although we argued about that, we always got along. At first he made a great deal of money, and even began doing IR for one of the companies in question. That company--I forget the name--was a scam, and crashed. Gary crashed along with it; he was completely wiped out.

He staggered back to his feet and began working for another company. It, too, was a major loser. He eventually decided the problem was with the Evil Shorts and MMs, which was not the right answer. Gary understands the importance of doing independent research, but he's never figured out how to do it, and he's incapable of maintaining the proper level of skepticism.

The Short and Distort thing is just another invention, contributed by a guy who lost a lotta money and usually doesn't want to blame the companies themselves.

Gary Swancey was a pioneer in how he used the Internet to promote companies he truly believed in. Although Gary's favorite companies didn't always end up being solid investments, what set him apart was his sincerity. He wasn't one of those types that sold while you bought.

Gary and I spent our early lives here on SI mostly sitting on opposite sides of the fence. After a while, though, we ended up being close enough to talk on the phone probably a dozen or so times. He was always quick to acknowledge that he often was a bit too trusting of people (which is an indictment of society, not him), but somehow had the moral fortitude to confront those that betrayed him and help bring them to justice.

The great thing about Gary was that he had a great passion for his work and loved to talk about it. He taught me a great deal.

May he rest in peace.

- Jeff
