There was an article on the new dual cpu boards but can't find it now. Perhaps in my dreams only. Good info on motherboards here: www6.tomshardware.com

Anyone:

This going to be embarrassing but I have no choice.

Some how while trying to solve a msnp32.dll problem after installing my ethernet card I lost my E:\ drive,(CD ROM).

Through safe mode I see the drivers are being loaded but E:drive does not show in My Computer or Windows Explorer.

My Computer\properties\performance shows:
"Master Boot record modified" and "Compatibility-mode paging
reduces overall system performance"

I have no idea what I did.

I second the Win2k on BH6 question, and I'll add another: Can win2k boot from a partition larger than 8.4 GB?

Thanks,

Spots

dominick,

until and unless someone else steps up with assistance, i'll try to offer some help.

here is a good link that specifically addresses your prob.

computing.net

there are several mentions of a possible mbr trojan. consider that. scrolling to near the bottom, there is mention of an mbr freeware program that can fix your mbr.

hope this helps

:)

more on mbr has been changed... a virus infection may not be the case here at all, but the more i search, the more i encounter this as something to consider. hopefully you have a good av program installed that you can scan with, or go to symantec's site and i believe you can scan for free or even download their av trialware.

"Q: What does "Master Boot record has been changed! Do
you want to restore original (saved) Master Boot Record?
(Y or N)" mean?

Answer: This message is displayed if changes in the master boot
record are detected. Changes to boot sectors are one of the most
common signs that a computer is infected with a boot virus. Some
file viruses, storing their counters in boot sectors, can also trigger
this message. Note that if you change the operating system
installed on the computer the boot sector may also change and
trigger this message. If you know this to be the case this message
is nothing to be alarmed about. If you know of no reason why the
boot sector should have changed you should investigate the
reason for it."

also try this link

everythingcomputers.com

and scroll down to

Mastering the Master Boot Record, where you'll find info on using "the Fdisk partitioning program, which comes with any version of Windows, to rewrite the master boot record."

"My Computer\properties\performance shows:
"Master Boot record modified" and "Compatibility-mode paging
reduces overall system performance""

did you then click the 'details' button on the performance tab?
