Well, I bought 6000 shares this morning because I think it makes sense to broaden the base from which dividends flow and this should be accretive to earnings. Should also provide some insurance for us non-Canadian owners (and former Canadian in my case)since a higher % of ownership will be in Canada if I understand the deal correctly. price was pretty good, too.

I heard a rumor that Timberwest is selling assets to make distributions. Has anyone heard something along the same lines?

broaden the base from which dividends flow Thanks, that's my initial thought too but still need to check. Usually I treat PVE as a swing trade.

higher % of ownership will be in Canada Isn't that a function of the financing though, only offered in Canada ? It's the open market trading that can still cause the imbalance later I figure.

This is my 3rd time in this year. It's been profitable.
I hadn't thought about the trading issue. Hmmmm. I do figure that if I buy right the forced selling window, if it comes to that, won't hurt me much if at all. Thanks

Check this out. Bypass the articles and go to the section on a U.S. Investor.

Thx, been doin my version of this for 2 years. I use amount of margin I am comfortable with to finance my next purchase and then pay down that margin with monthly distributions. For TSX onlys, I use a cash account since most house rules only allow margin on US exchange listings.

This makes a small add to overall distribution APR but does allow for buying dips for a better entry point. Not a massively aggressive program but one I can sleep with.

My biggest problem is the next new idea. I moved out of US MBS REITs over 2002/2003 and into Canadian O&G Trusts but am now searching for a new sector.

I've been searching for a new sector for quite a while, and haven't found one. All the warnings about income trusts from professionals seem to me to be applicable to business trusts, and I have to agree with them. Pipelines are good to hold if you got in early enough for them to be yielding 12-13%, but are too pricey now. Same goes for REITs, unless you want to take a flyer on the hotels. That leaves energy, and possibly NIF, but what's not to like?

Handbag

I love the Canadian O$G Trusts, the 3 Tax Exempts and 2 Taxable accounts I manage are 100% invested in them (only exception is some EIT/EVDVF in my wife's IRA), HOWEVER, for me, I always like to know where I am heading next and for the last 8 months my only answer is more O$G. I much prefer to be thawing the next steak so I am prepared for when this one is consumed.

Anyone know why the heating oil trust is sliding? It's
at 12.85 and looks like it could drop back to around
12.00.
