I'd say his recent picks have been very hazardous to the financial health of those who followed his picks. If you bought prcm on the rec, you were burned bad; MOT was downgraded again today, gstrf is hurting, as is LORal and gblx; if you bought TERN a month later, you're down 50%, and the big one, QCOM hasd burned many this year. Seems he's lost his touch, or is in a slump. Though there are many who will say they have more money because of the letter, I declare I have less. Better yet, the gilder folks are coy about refusing to accept any accountability or responsibility for their picks. They tout the report as something you should buy to ghet rich, and then say it has nothing to do with buying stocks. Hmmmm...........Just IMHO; now watch the Gilderites jump all over me, explaining how I fail to accept personal responsibility, I'm brain dead, etc. etc. It's what you cvall a supportive crowd--"I'm on board, pull up the ladder and let the rest drown".

Absolutley right. Unless you are a day trader who somehow gets onto the inside track. I would be interesting to look at Gilders recent picks and see how they rise before
the release of the news letter.

Does George have a leak in his organisation? Is he taking steps to investigate and plug any such leak? Or will he adopt the FU attitude he has displayed with respect to the crappy design and access to his website.

SW,

Sorry about the (paper) loss that you suffered. I did not forget my MOT, GBLX, GSTRF, NOVL, LOR, and AVNX holdings. But I still think joining GTR and GTF (the Forum) is a learning experience that I can't buy anywhere else. It enriches one's life in many aspects, including financially in the long run.

Regards,
Zaiyong

Much easier to think of the picks as an IPO. Fever to buy with day traders shorting at the peak. QCOM sat for a couple of years before taking off.

Does George have a leak in his organisation?

I would say no. I am seeing a voracious Gilder golden egg hunt going on by speculative daytraders. Pick the right stock before publication and get 50% on your money. If wrong, see your EXDS and WFII fall like humpty dumpty.

I wish the telecosm list would be chucked into oblivion.

It is noise vs. concepts presented in the newsletter.

The "Fund managers are sheep" quote from the movie Wall Street reminds me of the Telecosm List's purpose. A little list is much easier than trying to decide on the 20 stocks presented each month.

I thought the newsletter was more bullish on NTAP than anything else.

Jack

A compelling discussion of the June Report's comments on storage, IMO... anybody care to dispute it?

There is no "perfect" newsletter.
Especially when the market is bad, as lately... makes all newsletters and funds look bad.
All that being said, Gilder draws attention to the "big picture" trends that are shaping our technological world going forward. He translates what is happening into "laymen's terms" and identifies the players, by name.

I do believe one must do their homework before making any decision, but there are some stellar companies in the list, and some which got ahead of themselves in the recent run-up...

NO ONE is perfect at prognosticating the future... but GG is offering helpful tools for understanding what is really significant in today's writhing, surging, twisting, turning, technological landscape.

No doubt there is a "marketing" thing happening, too. I mean, he called some good shots, so he had a track record before sending out more flyers... The recent "correction" and some other stumbles help remind us to keep sober about our decisions and not get caught up in the exuberance.

Good luck...
Good information is essential to success in any venture.

Jeez, would you guys give the rest of us a break? GG and the Gilder Group sell the report for money--money, folks. They do so by touting the fact that you can get rich--they tout his previos stock picks and suggest you too can get rich. Then, they have a list of stocks, and they put new stocks on the list. Everyone waits with baited breath for the list. The subscribers buy, and, recently, get demolished. So, what's up?? The Gilder folks disavow any responsibility or accountability, saying "ohh, we sell based on your making money, but you can't actually pay attention to our list, you should do your own due diligence, etc. This is just an ignoble cowardice way of dodging any responsibility for what everyone knows is actually going on. And as for GG making technology understandable, that's a laugh. He is infatuated with his own vocabulary and obsessed with using obscure words and concepts in ways that few are likely to understand. He's also big on inane riddles and foggy metaphors rather than straight talk. The readers figure they're too dumb to understand this "deep" stuff, when in fact it's GG's failure to communicate in clear concise communicative prose. I sense he's trying to make things harder, not easier, to understand--and he's achieving that goal. I have a technical degree from one of the finest universities in the world. If I'm having difficulty, it's not my fault--it's the failure of the communicator. All just MHO, and I already know how I'll be trashed for my heresy.

Trashed for your Heresey - not!

Amen SW! You have expressed what I have been thinking for some time. I too find GG's style anachronistic.
He will no doubt blame the modern education system for turning out dullard's.

Does anyone know if Mr. Gilder still supports WAVX in any of his writings?

He's a member of the board of directors for this company.
He did not attend this years's shareholders meeting.

I'm just wondering if he still believes in this company's future.

Description of Waxexpress:

Wavexpress datacasting technology and services provides a richer content experience to the PC user with a completely scalable distribution model that allows broadcasters to monetize their bandwidth. Additionally, our e-commerce solution provides security, instantaneous fulfillment, and a payment mechanism that enables e-commerce on digital content.

This sounds like a very appealing niche and they have a nice group of big names whom they formed alliances with. Yet, revenues still remain nonexistant.

I'm wondering if Mr. Guilder still see's WAVX as a potential winning technology.

Thanks for all replies.

-CG
