Hi Jeff,

Another feature I really like is comparison charting, which allows you to look at up to 8 companies on the same set of coordinates. I don't know of any other site on the web offering this.

I also like the search feature which you implemented a couple of months ago, although it could use a couple of refinements, such as the ability to restrict the search to one particular thread only (but, of course, go all the way back to the beginning, instead of just the last 60 days). Adding Boolean operators (and, or, etc.) would be nice also.

Regards,
Sam Citron

Sam,

Last I heard, Brad was having trouble sleeping. All he could think about was the search engine. That's a good sign! Give him about two weeks (late August) and he should have it done.

Indexing all messages back to the beginning of time is the easiest refinement. It is going to be more challenging to implement a thread specific search, and adding Boolean operators is the most difficult refinement to tackle. Right now, the search engine defaults to the "and" operator...so, he needs to work on the "or".

It's great to hear from you.

Jeff

You're up early, Jeff! Yes, search engines are very important tools and well worth losing a little sleep over. "First search; Then re-search" is my motto. Brad's very first implementation had something that eludes Altered Vista to this very day -- conspicuous coloration of the search term so it stands out in the "found" text. I have no doubt that by the time Brad refines it further, it will be better still.

[charting]

Sam, I too like the charting feature, however there are a couple of shortcomings.

1. Not all companies are available, but Jill tells me that by summer's end she hopes to have all stocks above $5 available for charts.

2. Companies having no data are dropped from comparison charts, with no message indicating that data is not available. For a while this confused me so others should take note.

Is there a way to view a chart of the Dow itself and Nasdaq itself and the S&P itself over days months and years, like we can do with specific companies. If this is a stupid question, forgive me but answer it anyway!

Also to the founder of this site (and whoever is paying for it):
This site was definitely put together very well even for a professional web site. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that everyone here using it really appreciates it.

Thanks.

Kurt.

Hi ron:I've tried and tried again the url you gave me with $indus. It keeps saying no such symbol! (For charts about the Dow industrials).
