Have you seen the end-target we're shooting for? I'm holding off on that part because it'll be such a dramatic change to the now-familiar menu buttons.

magneticdiary.com is our target. With only minor differences. For example, the row that contains "Total Posts" should have enough room for the date/time stamp as well as total members along with that menu line.

I know the departure from the current menu buttons will be a bit tough for me to get used to, but the fact the SubjectMarks and PeopleMarks will still be in the same relative positions helps a lot.

It'll take a while to implement the rest of the changes, though. For example, Bill's intention with the "Account" button is to get rid of the "Options" button in the top menu and the "Your account number" and "UserLevel" at the bottom, but I haven't yet written the target page for that new button.

And things like the "Account" button getting rid of stuff we really don't need displayed on every page is an excellent idea.

The only functionality I'm aware of currently that we lost in the change is no longer having the "Ignore On/Off" toggle. That'll be re-incorporated next week but only on the pages that it's relevant.

Look, Mr.B and I don't have no secrets when it comes to LOOKS. So, I see chit before you do, and vice versa -- we're twins, like Kevin and I, get it!?

Now. If I were you, I'd let HIM -- Mr.B -- drive the LOOKS of this place. He's been busting effing ass on it for MONTHS. You? You're effing color blind -- no offence -- you fix dinner, Mr.B makes it look purdy.

You get my drift: let HIM roll it out at HIS pace: he's the VISUAL web pro around here, none better!!!

That was well-deserved and taken in the spirit intended.

It still hasn't completely sunk in that I'm no longer buried under the huge (16 months?) project of converting SI to this setup and there are still lots of hands on my time so things like this tend to take a while. Bill had the redesign done a couple of months ago. I only recently was able to piece together a few large enough chunks of uninterrupted time to work on it.

Have you seen the target look we're shooting for? If so, what do you think?

Another change that was incorporated is that now EVERYBODY has the search functionality at the top of the page, whether they're paid or not. If they're not a paying member, the 728x90 ad displays *below* the menu. And it's not as annoying as I thought it'd be. More noticeable, definitely, since you have to scroll your mouse and your eyes past it to get to the menu, but I think the ads will actually perform a lot better this way. And any negative of having moved the ad down is more than offset by everyone having search functionality on every page rather than having to go to the homepage like they used to.

Right. Whacked that out of the home page comp, but always intended for interior pages where needed in the bigger plan...

Thanks. Congrats go to Bob, though, for rolling stuff out. "I'm just here for contrast."

Agree that he's the visual pro around here and we're damned lucky to have his services available. But things still have to be done at my pace. What he provides is mockups that're strictly html and I use them as a visual template when writing the asp.net code to produce them, and his css (implemented quite a bit different here) is a lookup reference for when I need the answer to a question like "Okay, what's the background color he's using in this part?"

Now that I have this reference to work with and an idea what we're shooting for, I can incorporate the same changes to other pages where needed. For example, I won't need his input directly on the message-navigation stuff because now that I see how it *should* look, I "get it", and can incorporate the same approach elsewhere, including Investors Hub later.

iHub will be waiting a while, though. A higher priority for me is to rewrite iHub as ASP.NET (like I'm using for SI) and some database structure changes. Won't take nearly as long as the SI rewrite did, but it's still a huge project that'll take a lot of time because so much of it will have to be done from scratch. Too many inherited inefficiencies. Not only what I inherited, but what I created while I was learning the language.

Since you and Bill are pretty close, I assume you're aware of Talkzilla and how we're finally getting a little closer to rolling it out?

Seen what I've seen up to now, subject to ever needed change, and like what I've seen up to now very much.

Like I said: Let that wild horse of a human being Mr.B run with it, PLEASE!!! He GETS IT -- SI that is, and how it MUST function. Just let him run with it...

I KNOW it's hard: it's your baby now, but he ain't gonna touch the guts, just the looks, and access, and ease, and speed.

Trust me on this! Once, for kripes sakes.

Bob, I like it! I especially appreciate the larger font on the menu buttons, the old ones were hard for me to see.

Thank you, Bob and Bill.

We're definitely a good team on this. I know what functionality I want to exist, and you know how it SHOULD look. You show me how it should look, then I put on the geek hat and make it happen.
