I don't like the action at all. Bought at 36.50 on Friday but sold this morning @36.67. There was a report out on GM from The Street.com but I don't pay for that. Anybody knows what it was?

It's been a long time since we've seen GM display this type of performance.

In 5 of the last 10 trading days it has closed lower than the day before. On each of those days the stock has had positive money flow - meaning that there was more money going into the stock on upticks than on downticks.

When this sort of aberration occurs once or twice during a two week period it can be dismissed. When it happens 5 or more times it assumes more than random significance.

All investors always have the option to invest or to not invest at prevailing market prices. It's understandable that investors might want to own GM at current prices. However, why not just accumulate the stock on downticks?

One possible answer for this obvious investor aggressiveness might be that they don't believe that the price will be moving much lower.

35 will not hold. In my 10 years plus in the market one of the most solid trading patterns I've encountered with the majority of stocks is the inability for a low to occur in the middle of a decade. With GM at 35 now it is quite likely we'll see the upper 29s before she turns (if it stops there)!!! Nas Drovya!!!

Just bought more Generous Motors. If they can continue to have 0 financing for 60 months (as reported today), they can make it baby!! Also, couldn't pass up these prices with a PE of 10!!!

Hopefully the MASSIVE spike in volume today is a signal that maybe, just maybe, this stock is getting much closer to a bottom (hopefully 29-30). At this point, I'm almost out of available CASH to buy more. My last shot at glory will be averaging down on BBY. WE'll deal with GM later!!
Damn this is selling for 6 bucks under book for Pete's sake!!!!

Does anyone have any idea why the GM preferred stock (symbol: HGM) took a dive in the past couple of days?

Some investors seem to believe that the future financial performance of GM will be improving. If that’s true, that usually bodes well for the economy.

In 6 of the last 10 trading days, GM has declined in price while Money Flow data has been positive. This suggests that some investors don't think the price is going much lower.

An explanation might be helpful. Daily Money Flow is calculated by subtracting the dollar value of all uptick trades from the dollar value of all downtick trades. If the resulting number is positive, then money is flowing into the stock on upticks - if negative, then money is flowing out of the stock on downticks.

Since there must be a buyer for every seller - and a seller for every buyer - this is a useful metric to determine whether buyers or sellers are being most aggressive. If the trend persists for a period of time, one can judge whether the stock is being accumulated or distributed - and by inference whether the future value of the stock is likely to advance or decline.

In the recent trading history of GM, it's the buyers who have been most aggressive. To emphasize that point one need only ask the question, "Why buy on upticks, rather than just accumulate the stock as prices decline?" It seems logical to assume that the answer to that rhetorical question is that some buyers don't think that the stock is going lower and they're anxious to acquire the stock.
