OT(?)
"Trips are faster if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The other guy, who had just opened a good book, closes it slowly, takes off his glasses and asks, "What would you like to discuss?"

The first guy says, "Oh, I don't know; how about nuclear power?"

The other guy says, "OK, that could make for some pretty interesting conversation. But let me ask you a question first: A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff, but the deer excretes pellets; the cow, big >patties; and the horse, clumps of dried grass. Why is that?"

The first guy says, "I don't know."

The other guy says, 'Oh? Well, then, do you really think you're qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know shit?

Gold hits 12,000 Rupees on Mars.

In news late today the Martian Financial Network, MNBC, reported an all time high of 12,000 Martian Rupees for one finagle of AU-195. A finagle is about equal to one troy ounce minus 1/100 of a gram. 12,000 Rupees on Mars will buy one ounce of Canal Water, which these days is pretty scarce as the Canals are just about dried up. The leader of Easter Ruritania, the leading power economically in Mars, is about to attack Blotzaq, a sabre rattling group of isolationists who do not read their morning water service from the same book as the Ruritanians, and they do it right to left at that. The excuse is Blotzaq is catching up to Ruritania in weapons development, and the people of Blotzaq have no morality and are very crazy.

This is thought to lead to an increase in the price of AU-195 (nobody knows for sure what make the price rise and fall, it just does..) which is chiefly used to trade for water and for making vessels which detect water impurities. Not that anyone cares as even a Ruritanian will drink anything he can get his hands on.

The head of Eastern Ruritanian, Egroeg Shub is telling everyone why it is a good idea to attack the "Canals of Evil" in Blotzaq and depose their crazy leader, Madas Neissuh

Some folks, in addition to Lionore, found putting new
gold mines into production in 2002 to be a good idea:

Kingsgate reported 159,000 in 2002 vs. 9,000 in 2001

Gindalbie NL reported 64,000 in 2002 vs 3,000 in 2001
