In a way the overhanging possibility of any attempt to recognize the value of NT acts to provide support for BCE's price. I've sold my NT as of today to hold the BCE shares, and I'm going to straddle some call options since I don't think there is much chance BCE will be any lower than it is now come May 2000.

Jim, A look at the chart shows a couple of up gaps that at some point will have to be closed. It may just cycle as it has in the past.

I'll hold on a little longer...just a hunch, but sometimes those are the best clues...

Numbers from NT shouldn't hurt BCE tomorrow, in at 28 cents vs 26 estimate.

BCE's results rise, says could spin off Nortel

By Robert Melnbardis

TORONTO (Reuters) - BCE Inc. , Canada's biggest telecommunications conglomerate, posted strong results in its third quarter but said it might consider spinning off a strong contributor to its bottom line -- affiliate Nortel Networks Corp.

In a telephone conference call, BCE President and Chief Executive Jean Monty said the ''high'' discount on the conglomerate's share price has been a hot topic with investors who have been wondering whether it would help to spin off 41-percent-owned Nortel, one of the world's biggest telecom equipment makers.

''If the discount is not reduced over time by the operational initiatives that I have just referred to, we might consider structural changes to the group, including the possible spin out of Nortel,'' Monty told analysts in a conference call.

''However, I am not going to speculate with you on the likelihood of this scenario, and that is all I will have to say about Nortel today,'' he added.

Allowing some rough rounding off each BCE share has .8 of a NT share.

A 30% rise in the share of BCE and a .8 share of NT would be quite a deal.
