NETM effectively hasn't lost the TCP/IP stack battle to MSFT. The new features they are bundling into Chameleon are products in their own right and I can see companies everywhere using the MSFT stack, but buying or upgrading Chameleon for the new features (and independent minded departments will use the NETM stack). Foremost in my mind is bandwidth allocation management. This area will be a hot topic on EVERY intranet site. John Dvorak quotes a college student who was thrilled to see a T1 installed in his dorm, only to see throughput drop below 28.8K as usage skyrocketed. Bandwidth allocation is a huge issue, and NETM appears at the forefront of it. And it won't just be an issue of allocating bandwidth between video conferencing and file transfers but power plays between departments. Virtually every company will ultimately have to buy bandwidth allocation software, and NETM can easily maintain a 1, 2 or 3 market share in this area. The hot demand for this probably won't start till Q4, however.

Up 1.375 on good volume.
Lots of big blocks (20-50k) being bought.
Is this reversal we've been waiting for?.
The last few Qs NETM has risen sharply weeks
before earnings, only to dissapoint.
Any news today, or is this still techical rebound
that many tech stocks are undergoing.

Article which appeared in this evening's ZDNET front page news
zdnet.com  about predictions for the Unix market. Check it out.

..."The Unix operating system, far from being dead and buried,
will grow by 8 percent by the year 2000, with non-Unix
purchases, including Windows and Windows NT-based
systems, declining in that period, according to a survey by
Datapro Information Services Group.

Rapid growth in Internet-related markets has fueled the
creation of new Unix development tools,...

The research company predicts purchases of Microsoft
Corp.'s Windows NT will decline by 8 percent as Unix
purchases rise through 2000...
The report was based on Datapro's annual user survey, which
this year queried 1,318 Unix users worldwide. The research
revealed that users are overwhelmingly moving toward
Internet-based software development tools..."

Jim - One thing I have been noticing. When you report to us that the call or put volume is up....ie very positive or negative, have you noticed that NETM usually goes in the other direction? You reported earlier that the put volume on the 7.5's was very heavy and to watch out. Maybe we can all learn something from that. I might not understand all of NETM's technical stuff, but I do know a classical short trap when I see one. Hence the earlier comment that most people buy high and sell low ... Remember? .... Try doing something against what the general public is doing for once. I think you will find it pays off in the long and short run. Just a word of advice.

I will take my lashings like a gentleman

My attempt to "stir the pot" was sucessful...

I welcome all additional comments in tecnology and stock purveyance.

I apologize to my fellows in this group, and wish to extend my sincerest appreciation of all commentary in this direction.

Thank you all for your input,

rjs

P.S. I will continue to generate controversy............

NETM down 1.75 to 11.
This volatility is not good.
The selloff this PM could preceed
earning announcement. Look at what
happened to SYBS late yesterday and todays
announcment.

NETM recovers slightly,
but the volatility (a $2.25
swing) must be a concern.
This has been a typical trend with many
other co.s leading up to pre-earnings
announcements. Although this may not be the case
with NETM, there is a lot of maneuvering (escpecially
shorts) the last few days on relatively heavy volume.
What is in store tomorrow, as the feds likely will
stand still with rates.
This is truly a roller coaster that may be related to earnings,
new product releases, etc.
