Ford stock has been performing fairly well----are you presently in it.

You did well in Apple as I recall so let me know when you buy Ford.

I did trade in and out----not in it now------but wondering if it might be time to be in.

Your thoughts?

Unions Bend the Curve!

I knew they'd find a way to punish Ford: The new UAW contract with Ford apparently does not give America's surviving non-bankrupt automaker parity with GM and Chrysler, reports Bloomberg: "The plan doesn’t include cuts to retiree benefits, such as vision coverage, that were granted to GM and Chrysler." Rather, the pain seems even more concentrated on future hires (if there are any) than with the GM/Chrysler deals. ... TTAC wonders whether the UAW had an extra incentive to resist giving concessions that might make Ford more successful now that the union owns a large chunk of its main domestic competitors. ... P.S.: The argument that "the day the union owns the firm is the day workers will need another union" has always seemed a bogus argument against worker ownership. But in this case, where the union actually owns only competing firms, maybe it's not so bogus. Ford, GM and Chrysler workers used to have more or less equal status within the UAW. Now the union has a reason to give GM and Chrysler an edge wherever possible. ... 5:39 P.M.

based on improved performance by the company, the stock has had quite a run - question is whether or not we will see the earnings. They have beat expectations the last 2 qtrs and what I see for the 4th qtr is an estimate of $0.25.

Not quite ready to take my profits here, but I don't want to be greedy. I am somewhat concerned about the market and the economy as we head into 2010, especially mid 2010 and out.

Trying to decide between using trailing stops or start to sell covered calls here to protect my profits. anyone have any thoughts??

Ford may have ecoboost technology that gives 40/50 miles per gallon fuel economy with engine HP and torque increase on smaller engines.

Ford also has convertible bond at $9.10 per share, which will help its stock value.

Looking forward to $15, if fuel economy technology comes to the market in 2010 competing with GM Cruz. Economy is more likely driven by new products than stimulation by government. Pent up demands for new technology is similar to iPhone success in communications world.

I share your longer term concerns about the economy, but am enjoying this move back toward 2007 highs in F. 27% new car sales growth in Europe for November has us breaking decisively higher today. Longer term, Ford has made some sustainable market share gains as I think C and GM will continue to struggle as wards of the state. Not selling any yet.

I am not also, but I am thinking about it or selling some calls against it or using trailing stops. Have not decided yet, but hope to decide what to do over the weekend

When wall street crashed on Ponzi games, rich people lost big. Car sales down by 33% or more. Wall street is recovering, but how many investors will recover?

India and Renault are designing cars for $4000; to incubate for a market that covers middle class with less wealth. Money don't grow on trees. Chinese market is built on real estate wealth. And most cars are bought by government or business for their employees.

Ford has to protect its market with low entry cost new driver incentives. Business as usual will find no new buyers(children of Ford customers' family) can afford new cars.

While $4000 is for Indian middle class. $7000 maybe for US middle class after 2008 wall street crash. Golf carts(or jeep) with tiny ecoboost internal combustion engines may have to be designed.

dont forget in many cases it's easier to design a low cost car for non US markets -
the US regulations and safety features and liability add a lot to the cost of a new vehicle.

Thanks for the reminder, but regulation of emission standard has been designed out, thru clever use of water logged fuel, which is 10% ethanol 90% water. 46 formulations of gasoline all are water logged today. So, no emission problems expected on internal combustion engines.

Have a merry Xmas and happy new year!
