Jonas ( alias JJ )

So You are the one that HIJACKED my nickname...:)

Sorry, couldn't think of a better one and just used my initials.

techweb article in January (?) also mentioned that the possibility
of partial float of Logility was being considered...

Don't understand what you mean by a "float". Separate company? I have read about that. Any more info you have on them?

Thanks,

Hi REAL JJ

it is AMSWA's fully-owned subsidiary Logility that supplies
SCM solutions and according to the techweb article management
was considering selling part of the company to the public
...obviously AMSWA owners would benefit - but whether or not
this is actually going to happen...AMSWA seems a bargain anyhow...

Check out this site, its an investment group and Amswa is one of their picks and does a better job of explaining the positives of Amswa than I ever could...their other picks are pretty good also.

go2net.com

Amswa's homepage can be found at the following:

amsoftware.com

Logility's homepage (amswa's wholely owned subsidiary)

logility.com

Amswa's SCM software has won awards but probably so has Manu's and Itwo's. The main advantage is Amswa is so CHEAP compared to the others and should rise much better as the whole industry is starting to BOOM....

Most major ERP vendors (SAP, Baan, etc.) said they plan to add SC functionality to their ERP apps. What happens to i2, Manugistics, and American Software then, with their more limited product line and sales coverage?

Supply Chain Management Software is pretty specialized, and the companies they sell their product to desire a specialized product, not necessarily a seller of all sorts of software with a weak SCM software package thrown in. If the big boys get involved they might buy one of these companies to get their foot in the door, might be cheaper that way than starting from behind and from scratch.

If you have been checking out SCM watch out for Manu. It has had good news but delution is a foot and insiders are selling.

Itwo just captured a very large order, but is very expensive.

Take what I say with a grain of salt because I am strong for Amswa... but stock is cheap, offers high quality goods and will probably double within six months and maybe more if visibility is increased or momentum players get involved (I think both are about to happen). They will announce earnings in late August.

felix,

If you read Oracle's marketing propaganda, they claim that they already have SCM functions built into their manufacturing applications. I work with these apps and I can tell you that Oracle is simply blowing smoke here. What they currently offer are relatively discreet applications for purchasing, inventory tracking, and accounts receivable. There is some level of integration between these apps, but nothing that approaches the level of forecasting and transportation planning capability that a full-fledged SCM solution must provide.

Some marketing VP at Oracle apparently decided that his sales folks, with straight faces, could manage to pitch this collection of apps as an SCM solution. No way that pitch will succeed long-term. I can't say whether SAP or BAAN are attempting a similar charade or not since I don't work with their software and have not seen their marketing material. PSFT is the only ERP vendor that offers a real SCM solution since they acquired Red Pepper last year.

Companies like MANU, ITWO and AMSWA offer true SCM solutions because they have incorporated the complex algorithms necessary to produce forecasts based on historical data. They serve a growing niche that can not be easily consumed by the ERP vendors.

Tom
