Brazil stocks: I looked briefly again at ULTR annual report last week. I didn't focus to see if Brazil government would be significantly influencing their operations. If you discern something relevant, please post.

I'm going to stick with my few shares of Brazil bank ITUB. Sugar producer CZZ is on my watch list.

That's about it for Brazil for me.

Now Colombia...that's what's getting my attention.

Colombian Stocks

I have an interest in GXG, a Colombian ETF. The two largest holdings are Colombias largest bank and oil companies, both trade on the NYS; CIB and EC.

Colombian stocks gained some additional liquidity recently by merging their stock market with Peru's and Chile's.

Sugar Stocks

I have been monitoring the price of sugar, thinking that the floods on Thailand might have some price effect. IPSU is selling below book value after cutting its dividend and has financial problems besides sugar prices have not been rising.

Apartment Stocks

Home permit acitivity is showing that apt. building is outpacing other home building. Other than REITs, any ideas on finding value in apt. builders/owners ?

Hi Sergio H

Re: Investors Real Estate Trust (NasdaqGS: IRET )

finance.yahoo.com

You might look at IRET for an apartment play. This is a small regional APT. owner located in the Midwest. I selected them as they were the largest REIT Apartment operator located near the U.S. shale fields. The company generates a good dividend from their free flow cash ( elected to have my dividends reinvested w/ a 5% discount).

You can read some of my posts on the Dividend Investing For Retirement thread ( Message 27441189 ).

The company recently cut their dividend and although they are have low vacancy rates, the stock is closer to lows than highs. They have been building their available inventory buying properties as reasonable "value" prices.

For me it is the location of their properties. Maybe another view might be good regarding their financing (too much leverage), debt structure, or any other value consideration I might have overlooked.

P.S. I recall some recent news stories where workers are paying big bucks for trailers and trailer park spaces, sleeping in trucks, limited weekly motel vacancies, sharing houses (w/bunks) because of limited lodging accommodation. So, I think I am on the right track but maybe w/ the wrong company.

Thanks EKS. Maybe the show you saw was on Rock Central, about the boom in North Dakota.

Thanks for IRET. I will check it out.

Happy Holidays to all.

Oracle: I'll view the surprisingly poor quarterly report as an opportunity to add a few shares to my ORCL position.

Linn Energy, LLC (LINE)

Closed out my LINE position that I acquired 9/8/2010. Still quite bullish on the pipeline sector. Looking to move part of the proceeds into Martin Midstream Partners LP (MMLP) (they have NG storage & pipeline assets as well as some interests in AG fertilizer sales). I also like some of the Canadian Oil Sand companies (SU & COSWF). LINE was a good dividend payer and generated almost a 40% gain for the portfolio for the 18 months I owned it.

Hope you ended up making some money on it too.

Provident Energy Ltd. Ordinary (NYSE: PVX) - Sold high priced shares
Linn Energy, LLC (NasdaqGS: LINE) - Closed out Position

A few sales today going into the end of the year. LINE was the biggest position. To me it appears to be fairly valued selling near it's 4 year highs. Forward PE is rich at 18 and more importantly rising from its current PE of 16.65 (not a good sign for me). I plan to move the proceeds into the same sector.

PVX near it's 52wk high. Like the company, like their focus on their pipeline assets and move out of Oil exploration. Company pays a good dividend from the free cash flow they generate. Peeled off my high price shares. I typically buy this (they new pipeline company) below $8.00/share. Until I have more results from their new operation (cash flows, dividend stability), I am selling my higher priced shares at the current level.

Hoping to find some good end of the year buys to move the proceeds into. I have DE, MMLP & NSRGY high on my current buy list as well as SU which is a long term position I am building to replace my PBR holdings.

Still own LINE, I like COSWF at current prices. I also own APL, ATLS and EVEP in the MLP space. All growing faster than LINE. Still think LINE is a great long term hold.
EVEP is worth a real close look. Ohio acreage undeveloped layer may be worth the current stock price. Will tell in the next couple of years. Utica shale is how the play is described but it is actually reservoir rock above the shale. The Point Pleasant Formation 60% limestone 40% shale.
Still making money. Glad you have also.

PVX. Thanks for that info. I've been in since 12/06 with recent add 6/11. I believe I'll follow you, sell the position tomorrow, and presume I might get back in later at lower than current price.
==================================
I continue to sell lp's and utility stocks. They're popular sectors now, and some of their prices seem expensive to me. They don't seem to me to be a relative bargain. That is, I believe I can either reenter at lower prices or redeploy funds better elsewhere. Trimming today PPL, EXC, DPM fwiw.
