MANY MANY new and exciting products from ECI....
ECI Telecom Ltd., (NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECILF) today announced the release of the first member of its SDH next generation Add/Drop miniature multiplexer family, the micron SDM-1.
The micron SDM-1 is a miniature, multi-purpose STM-1 (155Mbit/s) Add/Drop Multiplexer with full cross-connect and protection capabilities, supporting a wide variety of tributary interfaces. Incorporating advanced optical and ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) technologies, a new, internally developed submicron chip-set (0.35 micron with over 260,000 gates), enables the micron SDM-1 to achieve dramatic size reduction, enhanced system functionality and low power consumption.
The size of a laptop computer, the micron SDM-1 is easy to install ideal for customer premises, Telecom Operator exchanges, and indoor or outdoor street cabinets. The micron SDM-1 supports Fiber-to-the-Curb (FTTC) and Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) applications, which utilize SDH transmission to distribute 2Mbit/s and higher bit-rate signals between local exchanges and remote access units. Similarly, the product supports Fiber-to-the-Office (FTTO) configurations delivering broadband leased lines for ATM, video and other applications.
The micron SDM-1 can be configured as an Add/Drop multiplexer with full cross-connect capabilities and path/SNC protection or as a terminal for SDH network edge or point-to-point applications, supporting one 155Mb/s unprotected aggregate or two 155Mb/s aggregates with MS Line Protection. The system also provides a variety of tributary interfaces, offering up to sixty-three 2Mbit/s (E1-PDH), three 34Mbit/s (E3-PDH) or 45 Mbit/s (DS3-PDH) and one STM-1 (155Mbit/s). With the ability to expand the local loop by up to 100km, the micron SDM-1 supports a full range of Access systems and services, including digital cross-connects, service multiplexers and copper transmission systems such as ECI's ExLine2 (based on HDSL technology).
Mr. Hezy Lapid, ECI's Corporate VP and General Manager, Synchronous Transmission Systems, said; "ECI's vast experience as a pioneer in the SDH market has enabled a further step in technological achievement to be reached, by developing the micron SDM-1. This step will have implications for future market trends and should reshape market perception of the SDH role in the Access Network. With the system's compact size and other major benefits, it is indeed the ideal cost effective bandwidth solution for accessing business and multimedia services."
The micron SDM-1 supports centralized management, with the ECI Network Management systems (eNM, eEM), providing full configuration, service performance, security and fault management. Additionally, management interfaces for integration with other management systems will be provided.
Full working demonstrations of the micron SDM-1 will be shown at CeBIT, Hannover, Germany,1997. ECI Telecom's display will also include other new products such as: the SYNCOM(TM) eCNM, a centrally located management system that controls multiple eNM subnetwork management systems; PlanNet(TM), an advanced network planning software tool; data over pair gain technology, which supports high speed services over copper such as Internet, Teleworking, LAN/ Access; Multigate, an integrated telephony for Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) Networks; and ECI's NCX next generation ATM and Frame Relay switching products.
A provider of integrated network solutions, ECI Telecom designs, develops, manufactures and markets digital telecommunications and data transmission systems, enabling network operators to deliver cost-effective services. ECI Telecom's systems provide capacity expansion, flexibility and management functions to more effectively utilize existing networks for voice, data, wide area and integrated networks.
