A technical question on VOIP ...

In a Canadian Press article about Monday's news conference on the Nortel-Microsoft collaboration on VOIP, the author states that if this technology is successful, it will cause the cost of features such as call waiting, to "drop like a stone".

If this were to the case for call waiting, is it reasonable to assume that this would this have an equivalent effect on the cost of caller-id?
