Chris,

I believe the original Europeans that came here, came here to escape religious persecution(intolerance) and to establish religious freedoms(tolerance). Of course, they achieved this by destroying the life and religious ways of the people that were originally here, essentially establishing a false and fragile base for those very freedoms they deemed to be essential.
