Web Retailers Seen Tripling Sales In Holiday Period-Analyst

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Internet-based retailers' sales over the holiday season may have been three times those of the year-earlier period, according to Deutsche Bank Securities' Alan Braverman.

"We were looking for a bit over a double about six weeks ago and we upgraded to a triple two or three weeks ago," he said in an interview with CNBC.

The analyst said that so far, initial sales figures are largely anecdotal until individual online commerce companies start releasing their sales figures.

Still, he said, early indications are that the most established Internet commerce companies, including America Online Inc. (AOL), Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO), will get the lion's share of sales for the season.

"The big will get bigger," he said.
