Tape this on your cube and pray to it 3 times a day:

------------------------------------
"Microsoft's most important business is the file system,
so we need to build a database file system that
preserves the interfaces of Microsoft's file system and
ease of use but yields all the benefits of a database, like
searching and sharing documents," Ellison argues.
------------------------------------

Is there still anyone wondering why Microsoft goes
through all the pains to protect integration of
Internet Explorer into Windows? The answer is above.
File system is DEAD. Of course, it's gonna be there like
HDD tracks and sectors are there. But you won't see it.
It will be hidden by IE2000 or Oracle2001. And it's about
time.

Believe it or not, we discussed this in
research context a year or two ago, though there's some
research done on these ideas for the last two decades.
Not many investment opportunities though - it's
the MSFT, Unix (Linux? Solaris?) and Oracle slugfest.
